Bridge strengthening

Trying to remember where exactly that bridge is! Theres one down in near Asda thats low and another near Home Bargins and Next.

It’s a cut through from the A52 to the A1. There is a perfectly good route via the A607 with no bridges. I don’t know why they don’t just ban all trucks from using it.

There is also plenty of signage before the tun into Springfield Rd.

That the one near Micky D’s?

the one in the picture (via the link above) didn’t fit lol

Network Rail have been putting these impact beams on a lot of low bridges recently.

Trucks that are too high are already banned from using it.

Even if they put a 7.5 tonne limit on the whole road someone would still manage to hit it in a 7.5 tonner.

one of the reasons they are getting so keen on this is the amount of delay payments they have to make to the train operating company’s when i left in 2008 they were being "fined " upto £100 a minute for these types of delays . and its not just the delay at the scene its the knock on delays right across the country which can spiral i believe they are recovered from the insurance of the vehicle striking the bridge .the scary one is the guy who caused the Selby accident got a bill for 11 million mins delay alone !

Yes impact beams are the way to go, just look at the fun they provide

Why not put the ‘strike beam’ further back, well before the bridges?

Be easier to deal with the vehicle away from the bridge, won’t it■■?

There is a bridge on 607,plenty of trucks go under this bridge( Springfield rd) every day and have no issues, why should they be penalised

My wife’s car was written off due too a truck not being able too get under this bridge, she came down road behind another car with a que behind here, the driver decided too reverse back even though pedestrians were screaming at him too stop, car in front of my mrs got out way but mrs couldn’t as cars behind,he reversed into her and then even though people were screaming at him too stop he continued too push her back up the road( my daughter was traumatised by it as she thought the lorry was comming over the top of them) ,when he eventually stopped car was wrecked ,mrs, girl frightened to death,I was rang and was there in mins, driver was trying to turn and go ,I stopped him and told him too stay where he was, other people had rang cops ,they arrived ,cops tried too sort things out but really struggled as he didn’t speak very good English,in the end copper gave us details and said they were just going too get him gone,he hit wall and sign whilst attempting too turn.
We received a letter off coppers a while later saying due too lack of evidence no further action was too be taken against him( don’t wrecked cars, general public screaming at him too stop, wall knocked down, sign hit etc count).
My take on it was these things happen,he took the wrong road, foreign country not understanding things etc etc ,But I’ll never understand why he didn’t stop when he had people screaming, telling him too stop, why he didn’t stop,if I was in a foreign country the alarm bells would ring ,I’d get out and look ,also he didn’t show any remorse ,didn’t just sorry or anything ,he just wanted too go .

Presumably then he must have pushed her back into the line of cars behind her and then them into each other?

Very unpleasant for your Mrs & lass I’m sure. Did she sound the horn constantly?

Surely details of the truck and company were gathered and the matter pursued by your insurer?

There would be less of these accidents involving foreign drivers if all height limits were given in both feet and metres. British trucks have height indicators in feet, bridges have them in feet (occasionally both), yet filling stations and some other properties (e.g. underground loading bays) have them in metres. Yes, you can get a unit converter app for your smartphone (or google it), but not everyone has one even today.

Far too sensible an idea.

Yes she was pushed into car behind but in all the mayhem of cars trying too get out the way it was hard too work out which cars had hit who ,a mess, which is why even though I don’t want him done for it,I just find it unbelievable that the police didn’t proceed with any action against him due too a lack of evedence .
There were from what I’m told people shouting/ screaming at him too stop,my wife just panicked, just trying too get out the way( I guess it’s not easy when you’ve a big truck comming for you) ,as did the cars behind, lots collided trying too get out the way.
But,if you’ve people shouting at you in full view of you too stop, surely even if you couldn’t understand the language alarm bells would ring, you’d stop and get out and have a look what’s going on .
All we know is we got letter from police and we were paid out for car ,so I guess his insurance paid out .
But the mrs is over it ,seems ok although weary of being anywhere near a truck ( which is a good idea regardless of accident, but girl is frightened too death even now,she really thought that truck was comming over the top of them, the look on her face that night ,I can only imagine being pushed up a road by a truck, helpless, thinking this is it .
As I say things happen ,he used his common sense by realising he couldn’t get under bridge ,I don’t want him done ,we’ve all been in difficult situations, foreign country etc,but I just think a sorry of some type ,and ijust can understand when people are jesturing at you, shouting at you too stop he didn’t stop,it was as if he was comming back, turning, and going whatever,I’m convinced if I’d not of arrived that’s what he’d of done .

Why not do what they should of done years ago which is build a ring road round grantham, they’ve been on about building one for donkey’s years ,but the local elite who make the biggest noise when there’s a bridge strike causing chaos in the town are the ones who block the ring road because it’s planned near there house :unamused: :unamused: .
