Bridge hit in Bristol 2-4-15

Had a text from my good buddy The B4stred saying a bridge off the Feeder had been hit with part of the load over the road …
anyone ■■

Bold Bloke as I hear its a well known chilled company     would you know anything :sunglasses:

Someones hit something …its coming up on Bristol traffic reports

Albert Crescent in St Phillips closed in both directions between the Albert Road junction and the Short Street junction, because of a vehicle striking a bridge. :open_mouth:

Pretty short lived event, probably only clipped it…

That bridge has been hit a few times. Its 14ft 3in, and i know of 2 double decker trailers that have attempted to get under it in recent years.

Theres no excuse to be honest, its clearly signed, and the route around it runs parallel and takes about an extra minute.
The 1st one i know of, was a pretty new Q7 roller bed air freight trailer from Avonmouth.
The 2nd, i think, was a very local pallet network member.

The bridge is marked as 14’3" but it is not. My lorry is 14’4" (measured by myself and 2 others) and it gets under that bridge no problem.

Of course it’s not. The signs don’t show the actual height of the bridge over the road, they show the maximum height allowed for a vehicle to proceed under it and there will always be a degree of tolerance built into that height.

i dont understand your point. its marked up as 14’3’’ . so if a 14’2’’ trailer hit it, then the driver wouldnt be at fault, as its marked up wrong.
As your saying its higher than marked, thats an even bigger reason not to hit it

Bridge Strike.jpgThere are actually two bridges there, right next to each other, both sides are signed at 14-3; but there has been debate for years as to it’s real height, and whether it’s lower or higher - there are a couple of red triangle warning signs at each end before you get to the bridge.

TNT use to deliver the papers to a wholesalers down there, drivers were always told not to use that road but go the longer way round (takes an extra few minutes max), they didn’t bother and hit that bridge so many times it was called “TNT Bridge” for a while. The pic is one of theirs being unloaded by hand after hitting the bridge (back in 2008)
