Bridge height at Bredbury

The bridge by Bredbury Industrial estate says its 4.4 metres and 14’9" on the signs.

Does anyone know which of these is correct? We’ve just got new wagons that are 14’6"

Fo on be brave give it a go :smiling_imp:
Someone’s always smacking it, used to p!!s me right off when our depot was just the other side of it so you had to detour round past the testing station :imp:

Try converting 4.4 meters to feet that will give you the answer

4.4 metres is 14’5"
14’9" is 4.5 metres

How can it be both?!?!?!?!?

I’d always go with the unit of measurement on the height indicator in your cab.

Measure your waggon yourself. I used to drive one that was supposed to be 12’9". When I got a tape and measured it, it was 12’6". This mattered because of a local low bridge marked up at 12’6". It went under with inches to spare.

My old Rigid was marked up at 12’6" when I got it, but turned out to be 12’3" when I measured it. So I left it at 12’6" just to be safe…
Got back in it a few weeks back and the indicator had been changed to 12’9" :open_mouth:
I guess the new limper decided to add a few inches for safety… But if everyone did that, it would be 18" high before you knew it!

We used to take our 14’9" through

+1.

I never looked at the metres tbh, 14’9" and my trailer was 14’9", so through it I’d go.

I will say though, the one between Brinnington and Bredbury is the same height, and it’s bang on, a 15’ trailer with suspension dropped scraped the pole that the height sign was attached to when a ‘friend’ decided to give it a go

I’ve been under the railway bridge there, with a trailer height of 14’ 9. Admittedly I went slowly, but had just picked up a trailer from Stockport Trucks body works (about 100 yds away) and was desperate for fuel. There is a Key Fuels station 300 yds the other side of the bridge!
