Bridge collapse in Italy

Not surprised…

Sections of the Autostrada were built in the 1930s.

Is it normal to have a 108T truck traverse a bridge like that without any sort of prior inspection, anyway?!

Evidently in Italy its not.

Tragic event, especially if it could have been prevented…

Anas, Italy’s road authority, insisted it had asked for the bridge to be closed at about 14:00 after one of its workers spotted problems.
It said Lecco province officials had demanded the information in writing - which required a formal inspection of the site. However, the bridge had collapsed before an inspector could reach it.

Looks like Italian bureaucracy in (in)action.

Just found this video footage, it is quite gruesome

The news report that goes with it says that this bridge had already been reported as being dangerous, that pieces of concrete were dropping off of it, that is why the n/side lane is closed.
Looking at that lorry on the bridge, can’t see is as being 108T, apparently it was carrying aircraft parts.

As if Italy didn’t have enough bad luck this week. Earthquake again + immigrants.

Politics aside, How the hell’s that bloody leaning thing manage to survive
