Brick grab and pallets

I’m not happy lifting pallets with brick grab. Thankfully it’s not often I need to do it, but today I needed to deliver 12 bags of cement, I asked guy who loads the truck to put them in a bulk bag instead, he insisted that it’s normal practice to use a pallet.

A pallet is not designed to be picked up on its ends relaying totally on friction, there’s no way of knowing if it damaged and weakened, and also it’s a complete pain if the truck is on even a slight incline because the rails on grab are always horizontal to the centre of gravity.

What’s the legal standing on this? Are there lolar guidelines?

Yes, I’d say cement bags go on a pallet too. I’ve never had them in a bulk bag.

If it’s going to be an issue, ask for some lifting straps, put them through the pallet and attach to the ends of the brick grab. But you’ll take a lot longer doing your drops.
As long as it’s not a piece of garbage pallet, and you don’t overdo the grab pressure, you should be fine.
