Monkey241:
Funny though … the EU as we know it took over 40 years to evolve
But on Brexit you petulantly demand an instant fix. Think of the Protocol as part of the evolution- like many iterations of the EU it’ll disappear

It survived over 40 years because the initial deal was realistic.
It was based on firm foundations that the participants tried to honour and not renegotiate before the ink was even dry.
It was renegotiated in various forms on a regular basis. The fundamentals MAY have been sound (complete with butter mountains etc and massive subsidies) bit it evolved into something much less in accord with what was democratically agreed in 1975.
What it evolved into was far less sound.
If you think various states haven’t tried to renegotiate various aspects you’re either a greater liar or bigger fool than even I gave you credit for; I suspect you’re both.

There really is no need to get personal.
But Im sure that wont stop you.
Yes, the Common Market/EEC/EU has evolved.
As you rightly say the base was sound.
The NI Protocol wasnt, and isnt on sound foundations.
But it didn`t fall apart because it was based on a genuine wish to succeed, and with a certain honesty and realism.

The Protocol was a casualty of getting Brexit over the line. Emotive lies over NI clouded issues and solutions.
As for being personal I’m just a little more up front than you. I’m sorry you don’t appreciate the directness but I prefer to be honest; something else we disagree on.

If it helps, Google the Samaritans.

A Protocol that was unnecessary… and was a means to an end. To paraphrase ‘All’s fair in love and war’
Honest, just so long as you get over the line.
Honest, so long as you win.

No prizes for coming second as you well know.
Perhaps if folk like yourself hadn’t attempted to undermine progress such a move wouldn’t be necessary.
Yet again you attempt to claim a moral highgrpund that you really have no right to.
Today’s Guardian has an excellent commentary piece:- This government has been built on a fantasy. Restoring reality will cost the Tories dear.
An extract: “Who, apart from Johnson, can cheerfully bluster through the disasters of Brexit and pandemic mismanagement, and lie with such effortless conviction? If your product is a con, you need a conman.”

It also had a very good piece on hoe Brexit hadn’t gone the way Remain predicted.
You didn’t post that though

I haven’t read it, give me a link so I can read it Hartlepool Boy
And I have to say anyone that defends Boris will be tainted by the same lies he has lived by whilst destroying Britain, our way of life & the democracy we once had.

You want to call me tainted?
Amazing what a keyboard can do

Still waiting for the link to the “very good piece on hoe Brexit hadn’t gone the way Remain predicted”
If it exists we need a link to read it, as so far to all observers Brexit has gone exactly the way Remain predicted.
If it hasn’t it would be helpful to all to see how it hasn’t.

You are?
Get off your gormless ■■■ and find it then. It’s only a couple of days old

whisperingsmith:
Monkey - I can’t remember any post where you have contributed any link or fact to corroborate your point of view.
Even Carryfast will do a Google search to prove his points.
You are Michael Gove (Mark Francois - Nigel Farage- etc) and I claim my £5
I don’t need to corroborate it.
If I question anything you say I’ll double check it rather than just call you a liar from the off.
The liar part comes as a result of double checking you.
Either look it up.
A bid to find some “Brexit Benefits” by burning some “Red Tape”.
Keep the Brexit press quiet, or rather give them some drum to beat?
A bone to throw to the back-benchers chasing Johnson?
Placate those who see the UK as a victim of the “Bullying EU”?
A pointless dropping of regulations that will make no difference at all , because industry will still follow them?
All the above?
