Brexit stuff in one place [MERGED]

Won’t have a real idea of job vacancies until furlough stops.

Those still on furlough will be driving trucks soon?
Who is still on furlough now? Drivers and forklift operators? Or actors, photographers, aromatherapists, and hair-dressers? All may have their place in a balanced society, but all driving trucks or sorting boxes?
.
Ed.to add
A lot will.need sorting regards Brexit, COVID, under investment in transport for years and furlough will be a part that’s for sure.

…no upshots of Brexit?
She clearly hasn’t been visiting these pages over the last 5 years

there are plenty of upshots of Brexit, we are being convinced on daily basis, such as:…(space to be filled by the Brexit fan club)

…and now the government is blaming you for voting Brexit

And another hiccup: the new BS Kitemark is to be delayed.

Pushed back to 2023 now.
Maybe the UK border posts will have been built by then to check for those stamps and paperwork? Such good news for UK manufacturers*.

But Franglais, they have kept to their promise to cut red tape.

It will now be Red, White & Blue tape, it’s not the quantity that counts, it’s the colour. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

There is another fela I’ve been watching from time to time, a fellow driver and here is one of his latest videos:

Brexit: Nigel Farage tells Jacob Rees Mogg to avoid fisherman

Today Van Man Talks Brexit: Nigel Farage tells Jacob Rees Mogg to avoid fisherman. I watched it so you dont have to Jacob Rees Mogg joined Nigel Farage on GB News this week to talk about many things including Brexit. Again Nigel Farage openly admits to Brexit being terrible so far for fishing and Northern Ireland and even tells Jacob rees Mogg to stay away from UK fisherman.
Today van man talks drives through Brighton race course, down Brighton elm grove along Brighton Lewes road and up to Brighton Ditchling road then back down Brighton London road towards The Brighton murial of the Brighton and hove albion player Bruno

youtube.com/watch?v=pYMbVzE6p9U

…so, I searched on GBNews for that interview with Hitchens and here it is, only 10 mins long:

Is it better to get on a tiny flimsy life boat and start rowing by yourself, before the big ship sinks? Or do you prefer and wait until the ship is completely submerged, to then wrestle with multiple people that was also on board, for those odd pieces of floating garbage that perhaps, may save you?

In other threads the Brexit effect is often mentioned regards driver shortages and hence wage increases.
I’m happy to see us getting paid more, but it isn’t all due to Brexit. There are driver shortages in many countries and that’ll surely cause increased rates everywhere.
Anyway this piece suggests Poland is missing even more drivers than the UK. The shortage isn’t just East Euro drivers leaving, although thst is of course a part of it.

I wonder if the EU harmonisation of driving rules and regs is partly to blame for making the job unattractive for the younger generation? My dad was a driver but gave up not long after we came off UK regs as he said he didnt want to work the increased hours that came with the EU regs. He foresaw the abuses currently in place regarding the expectation of being forced to work max hours (“cos that what the rules say you can do” is what I was told last week at an interview for a job I politley declined.)

I have asked all 3 of my boys why they didn’t follow me into driving and they all asked why? as they can earn the same yearly salary for far fewer hours.

So I believe to make driving attractive again there needs to be a reduction in the maximum hours you can legally work (not necessarily driving hours) and the recievers of goods must be forced to turn around tip times much quicker.

Agreed.
My place is in crisis largely due to archaic management attitudes
Drivers are leaving in droves and still management try to tell us why…

However, it looks like we’re about to force a drop in contracted hours

does anybody have any update on the predicted, over 5 years ago, and ever since fall and disintegrations of the EU?
As far as I can remeber we were being told by the Brexit camp that the EU is going to be falling apart, and many countries will follow this country’s steps to full independence and their own new, beautifull passports, as it happened in our case.

What I am seeing is pictures such as these , Polish and Slovakian fire brigade going all the way from Poland and Slovakia to fight fires in Greece, which is quite a way away from those countries.

It doesn’t look to me like the EU is falling apart, but cementing it’s shared existence.

Have you any footage of the non EU firefighters who went out there several weeks ago?

Certainly it isn’t just EU firefighters assisting in Greece.

But there are no credible reports of the EU collapsing either.

Didn’t say there was but this is just a case of countries helping out in time in of crisis nothing to do with the EU. As for prophecies how are those 20 mile queues on the M20 coming on? It would appear that both the Express and Guardian have the same level of competency when it comes to predictions.

Were 20mile queues a credible risk?
The Brexit UK gov thought they were credible enough that we had those concrete barriers set up on Kent M-ways, Manston etc on standby as parking.
You cant reasonably dismiss a risk as non existent because it didn’t happen. That is purely wisdom with hind sight.

The question was asked tongue in cheek to Hkloss to see if he could actually answer a question rather than his usual copy and paste guff, but as usual you jumped to his rescue good to see some things never change

I’m rushing to answer your questions Mazzer.
No I don’t have any.
I do not need to worry about not having any because I am sure you have some, to prove me wrong, and that not only EU member countries were sending high numbers of firefighting personel and equipment to Greece, to help them deal with those fires raging all over the country , but also non EU countries did the same thing, such as , for egzample, the UK.

The UK government is know all over the EU for willing to help other countries, doesn’t it?
Waiting for those videos , Mazzer.

Looks like it’s finally dawning on the pro-Brexit bosses they might have done a boo-boo. Tim Martin in the papers saying

"The pro-Brexit boss of pub chain JD Wetherspoon has urged the government to increase migration from the EU to deal with a shortage of workers in the hospitality sector.
Tim Martin, who campaigned for a hard Brexit, including leaving the single market and the end of freedom of movement which came with it, urged Boris Johnson to consider a new, “reasonably liberal” visa scheme"

Tim Martin - what a charming man.

Just when you thought you’d heard the last of the B word someone decides to start another thread on the subject.
YAWN!
