Brexit stuff in one place [MERGED]

And the latest news on ‘Operation Brock’ to ameliorate the Brexit Queues at Dover

LazyDriver:
If anyone can remember back to the Jeremy Vine features of massive job losses and wage decreases. How he and his elk pontificated that all leave voters should be the first to go. So I agree, that remainers shouldn’t benefit from leavers foresight.

Here we are!! It took a while, but we may finally get an answer.

please please LazyDriver do what no one else has yet, tell us all a benefit of Brexit…

One benefit of Brexit?

Well, I don’t know about you but my wage has risen twice this year and we are currently looking at greatly revised terms and conditions.

I’ll add to that the idea of an elected govt able to legislate across all areas of policy,.

I’m wondering what you saw as the great benefits of the EU… and how long they took to appear. We were members for over 40 years after all.

But you think all the benefits of Brexit should manifest in 18 months, in the midst of a pandemic?

Given that most Remainers proclaim how bright they are compared to Leavers I find that a little ironic.

Or stupid if I’m feeling less polite.

^^^^^^This exactly.
I’m a big believer in looking after no1 and my family, and friends.
I don’t give a ■■■■ about anybody else not connected to me in some way, if that makes me selfish…it’s how this job has got me.
I also ain’t all that fussed about politics,…again unless it affects me and mine directly.
but I’m glad to say since Brexit that even our job is even starting to look like it is being recognised for it’s importance to the country at last. :open_mouth:

So having said that,.the way I see it, because of Brexit and the effects of Brexit my wages and t.s & c.s have improved greatly compared with this time last year say.
So basically that is good enough for me…

If the moaners who did not get their own way want to bother their arses about politics I suggest they shut the ■■■■ up, hand in their notices and put themselves up for election.

Me?..I’ll just enjoy my substantial pay raise and get on with my life, and move on with life outside the EU.

Now no doubt the usual suspects will come back and ■■■■ on my chips with some counter argument refuting all I’ve said…but you know what??
I DON’T CARE.

In other news today it has been reported that Britain is indeed booming far more than earlier pessimistic forecasts predicted. Unemployment down, employment up and wages increasing by around 7% across the board.

Oh dear, they’ll be wailing and gnashing their teeth in Brussels and Strasbourg as we speak.

Arrrggghhhh!
.
Unemployment down? Compared to when?
The height of the covid lockdown? last week? 1969?
.
Wage increases? Again compared to when?
Is that more or less than other EU or no EU countries?
Is this a sustainable rise in purchasing power, or the start of an inflationary spiral?
.
How much is covid or Brexit related?
Other EU countries, and North America report driver shortages too. Not as severe as here it seems, but they haven’t just left a trading group, so how is it due to Brexit?
.
Why would Brussels be gnashing their teeth? Surely you aren’t one of the delusional paranoids who think the Common Market, and now the EU was created solely to do down the British Empire?
(Wealth is NOT a zero sum game. There is not a single sized cake up for division)
.
I seem to remember some here saying it’d take a few years for any benefits I’d Brexit to become apparent? It’s been 8 months since the start of the split, many things are still unsettled, many of the promised things are undelivered, a bit premature to “do a Dubbya” and say “Mission accomplished”…

What “case”?
You’ve made an opening statement, totally unsupported by any verifiable facts, figures, sources, etc, etc!
.
Bahh! Humbug!

You made no case contra, you had a whingefest, nothing more, nothing less. I appreciate that good news for UK plc really hurts and rankles, but seriously mate, get over it.

My facts were from your much vaunted BBC. Sorry about that old bean.

Maoster is right.

Suddenly you’re interested in objective measurement? Odd…cos you tend to be quite keen on sweeping statements.

Have to confess I’ve never seen you commenting on deflationary concerns in the EU…

dunno really, nobody’s speaking about the UK in the Eu, as far as the press in the four EU countries +
Norway that I regularly follow is concerned. What’s done is done, everyone’s moving on.

I’m in the market for an aftermarket oil cooler for my Biturbo Transporter, plenty of suppliers in the UK, but I will definitely go for a german producer, as it’s almost the same price as the british one when you take the customs into account…
That’s almost 700€ that stays in the EU :unamused:

What’s your point about the 700 euros?

I’ve been reading “Logistics UK and the British Retail Consortium (BRC) have written to the business secretary urging the Government to reconsider its decision not to grant temporary work visas to HGV drivers from the EU”.
commercialfleet.org/news/tr … work-visas

From the Financial Times

But the government rejected the case for providing temporary visas for EU truck drivers, saying: “The British people repeatedly voted to end free movement and take back control of our immigration system and employers should invest in our domestic workforce instead of relying on labour from abroad.

Apart from the usual crew on here that is. :unamused:

BBC R4 programme “You and Yours”:
Last quarter hour or so, someone saying (haven’t relistened to verify) half a million job vacancies!
I’m not saying that’s totally true, but does kind of need a closer look.

Very “iffy” choice of edit there, RR!

Sorry to quote myself but here it is.
bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000z01r
Report starts at 32min
James Welby CEO of Wholesalers association says 500,000 shortage in supply chain.
Report on container shortage too.
.
(Yes, it is the BBC. They are reporting what others are saying. They aren’t making stuff up themselves)

Won’t have a real idea of job vacancies until furlough stops.
