Brexit stuff in one place [MERGED]

So after all the rabid foaming at the mouth by some characters this is the reality.

Taken from BBC. Brexit lorry chaos avoided as freight flows 'back to normal' - BBC News
"Internal figures seen by the BBC show outbound roll-on roll-off lorry traffic for Great Britain for the month so far at 98% of last February’s levels.

Inbound traffic is at 99% of last year’s levels."

So now we are a few weeks in and it looks like the teething problems have been ironed out as expected.

If only some on here would have the patience to wait and see.

The “worst case” scenario of 7,000 vehicle queues warned of haven`t happened. Good.

So, was the Brexit minister Michael Gove who warned of such, wrong to have considered that?
He isn`t (I imagine) a poster on TNUK, but do you consider him to be “rabid” or “foaming at the mouth”…

And from your link:
“a notable rise in the number of empty lorries returning from Great Britain to the European Union, and
specific industries clearly affected by the end of the Brexit transition period”

No big queues doesn`t mean all is well.

Franglais:

I don’t think Yorkie was referring to Gove actually

Also from the link
" Even now, with overall levels back to normal, there are around 1,000-2,000 fewer lorries exiting the whole of Great Britain with actual freight.

This is partly down to pre-Christmas stockpiling, but that effect is likely to be waning now. "

So could there soon be a rise of freight moving both ways?

Some on here were delighted that trucks were parked up unable to cross.
As I said at the time it was just teething troubles as we all get used to the new way of working.

BTW Franglais I wasnt calling you rabid as I do enjoy reading your measured and informative posts. You debate rather than rant and rave like I have seen some others do.

Of course, Franglais COULD simply acknowledge Brexit armageddon hasn’t happened, that a govt MUST plan for the worst case scenario and that he’s also de facto a leaver now.

He won’t.
Perhaps the rabid epithet fits, given his tendency to ignore inconvenient evidence?

Governments must plan for the worst case, of course.
The issue is that the Gov itself was saying that, what you describe as Armageddon, was possible. It wasn`t just some rabid posters.

And the worst case possibility was arguably made more likely by the brinkmanship etc of the Gov itself. The worst case was only possible because of the actions of the Johnson Gov.

And as some teething problems get ironed out, any longer term problems will come more to the fore.
As we are often told Brexit is a long term project.

Ah…at least you acknowledge the idea that resetting a decades old trade relationship might incur teething problems…
But that realisation is soon subsumed by a desperate desire to find deeper issues…

Almost like the old relationship we had was perfect …it wasn’t.

Some goods for export are not accompanied by the correct papers yet so arent even being loaded. Clearly they will not be contributing at all to any queues at the ports, but equally clearly that doesnt mean that all is well.

Hopefully teething troubles will be overcome, and things will go smoothly, but it really is too early to call this either way."

Deeper issues? The lack of truck queues means that all is well? Whether those trucks are empty or loaded makes no difference then?
Whether or not exports take longer and are more costly for our EU clients? Whether imports are about to become more difficult as April 1st and July 1st approach?
Truck queues being avoided is good, but that is hardly a good measure for a successful Brexit.

“The old relationship we had was perfect” Who said that?
The same person who said Armageddon was coming?

Premiered on the 11th February 2021

James O’Brien reels off all the Brexit chaos - from the last two days.

He began: “Just off the top of my head, it looks like the shellfish industry is about to wither on the vine because there’s quite a strong case to be made for claiming Michael Gove didn’t understand what he was signing.”

"It’s taken 42 days for Kate Hoey to move from coming close to claiming that anybody who didn’t back Boris Johnson’s oven ready deal was some sort of traitor to the UK cause - to claiming that the Northern Ireland protocol that was an intrinsic part of that oven ready deal, sort of, needs to be fixed immediately.

“Even this condescending, sneering public school boy Remoaner didn’t think it’d start falling apart that quickly.”

James continued: "Amsterdam has overtaken London as Europe’s top share-trading hub.

"We’ve got £1 billion worth of Brexit red tape coming in for chemicals.

“The Northern Ireland protocol is falling apart at the seams - and it would appear Michael Gove’s attempts to weaponise Ursula von de Leyen’s flirtation with a terrible mistake one Friday afternoon in January has come back round to bite him on the backside.”

“Half of exporters to the EU are having Brexit difficulties according to a new survey. That counts as good news, right? I would cast that as only half of UK exporters to the EU.”

James said, "We’ve got the Governor of the Bank of England warning that the deeply desired trade agreement on final services is currently looking rather sticky, stuck in the long grass.

"Another massive lorry park has been cleared in Dover, which of course was a very pro-Leave part of the country.

“Lord Frost has started whining about the relationship being more than bumpy since the deal he was patted on the back for signing.”

"Small businesses are drowning in paperwork and facing higher costs.

"Food traders particularly in Scotland have warned that price rises and potential shortages.

“JD Sports talking about the loss of millions of pounds and the possibility of transferring warehouse distribution centres and therefore a large number of jobs to continental Europe.”

“That takes us back to Tuesday,” James said.

Truck queues as a measure of Brexit success?

Not sure I’ve said that, more alluding to the fact that these queues- or more, their lack-are symptomatic of a desperation to undermine what is a done deal.

You chose to base yourself overseas.
I can’t blame you for that-I’d happily settle in Germany having lived there for 10 years. But I do find it antagonistic for a foreign resident to demand their own way in the country I choose to live in.

Only a few days ago msgyorkie was complainig about all these Brexit threads, how much he hated them and they should be removed/moved somewhere else, or locked for only remainers to comment on them, so moderators merged those two recent Brexit thread to satisfy complainig msgyorgi and his Brexiter mates.
What is msgyorkie doing now?
You wouldn’t possibly guessed it, msgyorgie is opening another Brexit thread.

A done deal insofar as we’ve irrefutably left.

More than happy to clarify that for you.

A bit disingenuous that one Franglais. They are asking for a reset regarding the issues over the Ireland border and what happened with the EU vaccine meltdown. I think the UK was handing out an olive branch to the EU.

“North East coalition files world-class Freeport bid”
"…economic experts have predicted would generate a £2.1 billion boost to UK exports, plus many other significant benefits. "
"…Through the North East England Freeport, over 30,000 new jobs are expected to be created for the region, of which 13,000 are highly paid ‘better’ jobs. A further 31,000 jobs will be generated in the construction industries. "

Stupid Brexit!

“PD Ports announces partnership with Port of Rotterdam in latest step towards achieving future vision.”

“PD Ports’ CEO, Frans Calje, explained how the partnership with the Port of Rotterdam will ensure that Teesport remains in a prime position to support the smooth flow of goods transiting the UK post-COVID and post-Brexit.”

Stupid Brexit!

So, the stupid "yes it is, no it isnt" border agreement needs a reset after just a few weeks doesnt count? A fudge signed up to by to by both parties to get some sort of agreement done, even if it is
OK.

But talks are still ongoing in various sectors.
And other rules have yet to implemented.

The fat lady hasn`t even warmed up yet.
