Back to queues in the stairs but this time it will be on the ferry stairs, they will probably employ the black customs bloke who took our passports off us in Portsmouth

How is the skin colour of the Customs bloke relevant?

its not relevant other than the fact he stood out at the time cos he was black…the irony of that fact now as its irrelevant as he would just blend in. :unamused:

Well work started today dredging the Ramsgate harbour so somebody knows someone?

Come to “no ferries” - what happened to the Woolwich Ferry that was due to start on December 31st?
0

It didn’t get stuck in the Kiel canal as per the other post about it - did it?

The talk on the Thames was that the crews were taking strike action over the new pay structure that would see them over a grand a month worse off, don’t know if that’s been resolved yet though but the ferries are ready to start running.

grumpyken52:
They didn’t bring them in at Ramsgate , they brought them in by transporter ships to Richborough

Must have been a very small ship then because we used to struggle sometimes to get a 200 ton barge to Richborough …

There used to be a whole docking area behind Pfizer but it soon all silted up when they stopped using it and maintaining it (dredging) .
It seems like only a few years ago but in reality it is nearer twenty !
Even when dredged Ramsgate won’t handle the large ferries and certainly not the large transporter boats .

so has failing grayling employed any extra customs people to speed up clearances , doubtful. still manston is handy for a ramsgate overflow truck park.

I only ever came through Ramsgate once from Oostende, which was an experience in it’s self :unamused: …,
I also got a full load strip out in the Customs shed :unamused: (after they were suspicious for some reason as it was my first time through there :open_mouth: …it didn’t help when I said it was because I was being punished  )

Anyway what I’m asking is did the ferry service close completely or what?.., just curious)
Was about 9 yrs ago when I used it.

The Woolwich Ferry is supposed to open in a week or so. There was a strike ballot in November but I can’t find anything more about it - I assume that they settled. The delay is a technical problem with the auto-docking on one of the boats.

Wasn’t it Sally Line…

Ferries all those years ago? If my memory serves me right, to get to the docks you had to drive along the seafront wall past loads of houses and shops and more houses and everything.

Same as Robroy, I had my F12 stripped out whilst they looked for baccy. Roof linning, door panels, under the cab, everywhere…except the glove box. No one actually lifted the lid of the glovebox in the cab. I shoulda stuffed it full of charli, diamonds and Rolex watches.

I remember using a ship called “St.Niklaas” into Ramsgate years ago. That was a big ship.Presumably the berth has silted up since then. There was also a hydrofoil for passengers only. Now that was a horrible way to travel

Seaborne, have been sniffing for a while .

Just found this …

‘‘The Port of Ramsgate welcomed its first car transporter ship today (Tuesday 19 January) marking the start of a new port operation by transport and logistics company GEFCO UK Ltd.
The Autopremier arrived in Ramsgate at 05:45 transporting 1000 cars from Zeebrugge, Belgium using one of the Port’s existing Ro-Ro (roll on roll off) berths.’’

See: born…yesterday?

Looks like someone was.

Saying this company is on a different contract to the two proper ferry co.s shows a lack of confidence, surely? But in the event it falls and nowt ever is paid, time money and effort will have still been wasted.

Much the same as the payments made for Manston to be on standby for operation stack .
All those porta potti and flood lights wouldn’t have been cheap . The hire companies must have made a nice bit of bonus out of that and must be repeating it over Brexit .

Well it looks like some border force ferries are being taken off the Mediterranean run to help ferry passengers across the channel!

Setting aside the fact that this Seabourne mob have never even owned let alone operated RORO ferries or ever had anything to do with maritime transportation, only have £66 of assets registered at companies house and who’s T&C’s on their website was literally copied from a fast food joint.

How the ■■■■ did they even get to hear about the UK government tendering for ferry services when no one else did? It makes no sense.
Surely the UKG’s due diligence would have dismissed them as chancers?

The answer to the above is corruption. Good old fashioned corruption, fair and square. We’re run by crooks and charlatans.
