Brenner pass

Hi all

Went to a town north of vicenza a couple of weeks ago in an artic and went via france , mont blanc , milan etc , quite an expensive route but seemed the most straight forward at the time , was just wondering what if any regulations are in force for the brenner pass and an approximate cost to go over. Im aware of the vignette , german maut , austrian go box etc just some help with the brenner would be appreciated , also got some pics of trip so if i get time will post a diary if anyones interested , i know its not the most exciting trip in the world but sure beats doing locals :smiley:

If it helps vehicle is a euro 3 magnum , and we may be sending a euro 3 7.5 tonner on same job so just trying to trim the costs.

Thanks

Any help will be appreciated.

YES PLEASE,put diary photos on,will be good to see the alps. :laughing:

have a look at the euro stickys post and trawl through
the cost of useing the austrian roads without the charges
the brenner are around €0.27cents a kilometer FROM
kEIFERSFELDEN to the Italain border around 114kms
plus the costs for useing the brenner , from the austrian border to
venice around 500kms, the distance from Aachen to the austrian
border is around 750-800kms +/- this will say around €80-90 AT

a rough price check,what about going by train from Freiburg to novera
italy and then you only have about 4-6hours depending on traffic to venice,

lets us know what you make of the above,

SORRY ;;for get the train you are TOO high when you are over 4.oom
and do not try letting the suspension down as if some thing goes wrong
you may have very big problems, The height allowed for the train will be posted for Freiburg --novera 4.00m-------------SINGEN----Milan 3.60
the others are 4.0m i do belive as they rebuilt some tunnels along the route
to Trento ; from Regensburg, plus these other routes
* Regensburg (Deutschland) - Trento (Italien)
* Graz (Österreich)- Regensburg (Deutschland)
* Salzburg (Österreich) - Villach (Österreich)**
* Wels (Österreich) - Arad (Rumänien)*
* Wels (Österreich) - Maribor (Slowenien)*
* Wels (Österreich) - Szeged (Ungarn)*
* Wörgl (Österreich) - Brenner (Österreich)
* Wörgl (Österreich) - Trento (Italien)
* Wels (Österreich) - Spacva v.v. (Ost-Kroatien)

Thanks Pete

Have looked into the tunnel and seemed quite a viable option , but as you say there is a height issue , we run renault premiums as well and they always seem to ride lower with the 4m trailers so will have to measure it up , so is the brenner just included in the cents per km basis in Austria or is there a toll to pay for it like the Mont Blanc.

Regards

James

hi try reading through this site you have to pay extra for using the Brenner
and it costs far too much to use it at NIGHT;
here is the AUSTRIA/BRENNER MAUT LINK

PLEASE REMEMBER IT IS ONLY ALLOWED to use a trailer that has a height
of 4.00m this is laid down by the EU,yes lots of people run around with
over height trailers but and this is the but IF you get caught out it may just
bugger up you journey and the contract , it has been posted on here before
and we(TKNET MEMBERS) all have different views; the Germans can make you transship the load and pay the costs complete, then ■■■■■■ you back to the border at your cost this can occur Austria and the Swiss are hot as well,
Plus when loading careful as the Austrians have lorry checkpoints
along the route and love making truckers part with their money
for being overloaded,etc etc,

any more questions just keep em coming
some one will have a answer for you

Had no amount of problems the CH and I border,it was my fault,my toll ticket got lost in the cab,once fined by one customs checkpoint,only to be hauled over to the Italian authorities to be dealt with,it was my own truck with no trailer,busmans holiday in solo unit,they could not understand why i had no trailer.Was a whole day to sort out,this was 1995 ish.

Was going to ask pete this question anyway, what’s the craic with the fernpass? Used it twice this past month, even went past Polis, they didn’t look twice, fully freighted both times once southbound and yesterday northbound, saw the signs for 7.5 but there were plenty of Italians, Austrians and Germans using it. :question: :question: :question:

it,s a catch -22 depends on how Mr Plod feels on the day,
does s it save you that much time, and if stopped and turned around
how much will this bugger up the trip, some passes are still open, but not many drivers use them unless they have knowledge , the other point is that
when it starts snowing these passes are left alone until Spring ,
by the way folks how many of you are getting the winter tyres and snow chains
prepared for when it comes in to force, :slight_smile:
