i have had a chat on the web with with a mate hes a driver and he thinks that if you drive for 4.5 hours you can unload your lorry still and then take your break.
i have told him that once you 4.5 hours driver are up you must take a break and that would be before you unload am i right or

take an uninterrupted break of not less than 45 minutes,
unless he takes a rest period.
Only two options when reaching 4.5 hours driving and neither one of them is other work.

if he’s done say 4hrs 29mins driving, no reason why he can’t unload as long as he doesn’t go over 6hrs without a break.

True, but the question was about 4 hours 30 minutes, not 4 hours 29 minutes, and that 1 minute makes all the difference to the answer.
VOSA’s rules booklet is even more explicit on this.
