breaks

i have had a chat on the web with with a mate hes a driver and he thinks that if you drive for 4.5 hours you can unload your lorry still and then take your break.

i have told him that once you 4.5 hours driver are up you must take a break and that would be before you unload am i right or

You are right. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:  :stuck_out_tongue:

REGULATION (EC) No 561/2006 Article 7
After a driving period of four and a half hours a driver shall
take an uninterrupted break of not less than 45 minutes,
unless he takes a rest period.

Only two options when reaching 4.5 hours driving and neither one of them is other work.

cheers mate for that will pass it on

are you sure about that??

if he’s done say 4hrs 29mins driving, no reason why he can’t unload as long as he doesn’t go over 6hrs without a break.

Very sure, backed up by the quote from the regulations

True, but the question was about 4 hours 30 minutes, not 4 hours 29 minutes, and that 1 minute makes all the difference to the answer.

VOSA’s rules booklet is even more explicit on this.

Breaks

After a driving period of no more than 4.5 hours, a driver must immediately take a break of at least 45 minutes, unless he takes a rest period
