Breaks, paid or not

Why would someone not get paid for being at work,in truck ,at work ,away from home,on the job, sorry but this pay structure confuses me!

bjd:
paid from the moment my card goes in till it comes out

I’m paid from the moment I enter the yard, till I clock off on the digi card. I have turned up at 5am only to be told I have to wait an hour before I can leave cos the load isn’t ready. I don’t put the card in till I’m ready to leave, and sitting around drinking coffee is the easiest job in the world but if I have to do it at my company’s depot then they pay me!!

Paid a set daily rate very rare to work the full contracted hours.

The local contractor/haulier I tempd for last November-December used to pay me set daily wage. One week I’d worked a few hours more than I was paid, and he rang me on Friday morning to tell me to park up Friday lunchtime. I loved that job, I was given the list of work to do and I planned the day, which tip or quarry to use, even screened and loaded my own topsoil loads in their yard.
Hoping to get on there full-time…

My firm pay overtime if you work late. If it’s up to an hour I never claim it as I’m always finished an hour before my official finish time and they never stop me it.

Agency pays me 8 hours minimum but 45 minute deduction after 8 hours i.e 8 hours 45 minutes I would be paid 8.

Even when using break at an RDC waiting room (As long as I can get exclusive recuperation  ) I will still take 45 minutes to an hour towards the end of my shift on the run to base/park up spot. This is my favourite break and only sacrificed if I need to get back for personal reasons.

Sometimes I book this last break as POA/other work as I will know how long I’m going to be but want to catch up on paperwork or have a check round the truck, retighten curtain straps etc.

We are paid for Average 48hrs but with breaks deducted so really 51:30hrs

Get deducted 45 minutes per day. If I do 15 hours I get 8 hours standard and 6.25 hours at time and half regardless of how much break I’ve really had. Some days I can have over 4 hours.

tachograph:
I have 45 minutes stopped, any other breaks I have to have I expect to be paid for and always have been.

same here. First break is lunch, any others are legal requirements so we get paid. I do use a lot of POA anyway though just in case anyone changes their minds. To be fair, I do take an extended break if the ferry comes in and the Irish wacky races gets under way. I haven’t been questioned though even taking 1 hour 20 on break to let them get clear of cairnryan

30 mins deducted

xfmatt:
I can never understand how firms can deduct money for breaks when it is a legal requirement. I’ve worked for 3 different companies before I went on my own and never had money stopped for breaks.

isn’t it a legal requirement in most other industries to have a break, with no legal requirement to be paid?

i think this poll needs an option like - all break time recorded deducted

i’m not saying it doesn’t happen but, just that i have never experienced, personally heard or read on here, of anyone getting all recorded break time deducted which is what i thought this poll is for, isn’t it?

Yeah it’s not a legal requirement to pay the breaks but I must just have been lucky. Even when I worked in construction and doing bar work I’ve never been deducted for breaks.
