Breaks not being registered unless I've driven truck

Possibly being a numpty here…

I know you can’t start/end your shift with a break, but on two mornings this week I’ve not had a load for the first couple of hours, so I’ve used the first hour to hammer/acid the concrete off the back of the wagon.

After 45-60 mins I’ve gone to grab a coffee and decided to get in a 15 min break. When I switched it back to other work after 20 mins no break was recorded!

You must register at least 1 minute of driving first before a break will apply, I don’t know if you have taken that into account.

It’ll count towards your WTD break but not your driving time break because you haven’t started driving during your shift.

As Well-Jell says, you only have to register one minute of driving time then it will count towards your driving time break, so you’ll then just have to take a further 30 minutes later in your shift to reset your driving time.

You can’t take a break from doing…… well…… nothing! As mentioned put your card in, go for a spin around the yard and then put it on break. It’s what I do on a Monday morning if the weekend has gone breasts north and nothing is loaded and I’m looking at anywhere from four to six hours waiting for a load.

Sorry, should’ve clarified I meant WTD break. I don’t usually hit 4.5 hours on the concrete in city centre. Most jobs are 10-15 mins away and if it takes longer it’s because I’m stationary in traffic.

They will be recorded on a printout or tachocard analysis software. They just wouldn’t show on the tacho head without the one minute drive.
It’s like 2 or 3 X 15 min breaks or a 30 min all won’t show on the tacho head unit. But required for wtd.

Cheers bud, this clears it up. When the weather’s bad we can be sitting around for a good 2-3 hours, so makes sense getting a 15 in rather than trying to cram three breaks into the afternoon.

Gotta say I do love the concrete. Never had so many cooked breakfasts during work hours in my life.

Would you be ok with not putting your card in at the beginning of the shift and doing manual entries to cover the time prior to putting it in before leaving the yard
