Breaks from driving

does anybody work through their breaks sometimes in order to get on?

I expect those not hourly paid might do but it is illegal and they know the risks so it’s up to them to make their own choices on that.

If hourly paid then they must be daft to do so as they are giving away their own money !!

loads of people do it, loads, tipping off the card is another.

I know a driver who never seems to change the mode switch on the digital tachograph, it defaults to rest when the ignition is switched off and that’s where it stays regardless of what he’s doing.

why :unamused:

Drivers are a strange breed

some tachos have been programmed to do this, its causing a bit of a stir. Still qualifies as mode misuse tho.

Mine defaults to rest also, but it’s no big deal to switch it to other work, just a matter of getting into the habit

I often take the first 15 while tipping, but then do a proper 30 rest. If the tip is a long one,i’ll do the 30 while doing it.
I’m paid by the hour, but honestly i’d rather get on and get home.

I’ve a life and it’s better spent not working!

i always need a crap, at 7am.
so i work my hours accordingly.

I did it today actually, 4 and half, 45mins, 4 and half, 45 mins then one hour home.

I tended to do a 10 hour driving day in approximately 3 equal bits

Tends to be 3 to4 hrs driving for me, to get all drops off. Break, then head home.

I like to split my nine hours into 3x3 where I can, but mostly WTD dictates when I have my first break, being on multidrop.

we drive close to the 4 1/2 and then 30 because we usually have to break while tipping in order to get around the days drops. usually have a timed collection after getting all my drops off.

Blimey, that’s precision driving! Beware, folks, who might be reading these forums - don’t incriminate yourselves!

That’s easily done over the water where, particularly on French autoroutes, you rarely go more than 10 - 15 km without a parking place.
