Coffeeholic:
I’d like to say I am surprised that this has happened but I’m not. I thought at the time that Ian was setting off on this trip on a wing and a prayer and with very little planning. I couldn’t understand how he had taken the job on but wasn’t sure of the route, ferry crossings etc. How can you price a job or know if the rate is correct without knowing these important facts.
I agree and to be fair several people on this site did warn him that it might not be as easy as he thought. Having said that I obviously wish him well and hope the matter gets resovled soon.
Not sure about Ammunition not being classed as haz. I’ve carried CO2 fire extingushers and they came under ADR regs.
Wish I’d read his post before, as there is a boat from Trieste to Istanbul, which might of solved the problems of either going through Greece or Bulgeria.
Anyway I hope he gets things sorted soon.
Yes i do hope he has his ticket to carry explosive’s if not and custom’s/police notice it then he is up ■■■■ creek.I also hope his veh & trl are marked up front rear & side’s.
ammunition comes under ADR class 1. even then it is split into different groups within that classification. he should be displaying orange plates and have all the documentation including his certificate.
good luck to them. i hope they get this mess sorted out
Sorry to hear about Ian and his mate being in a mess, especially in a former eastern block country, not renowned for the impartiality of their law enforcement and legal systems.
But I do wish him well, and hope he’s OK and back soon.
How about contacting the english m.o.d?
Good luck ian anyway and i hope you get everything sorted.
Lee Durose at stobarts might be able to give some advice, sorry i dont have the number to hand.
What a mess I really hope he gets out unscathed.
On this business about the warranty on the vehicle, I dont know if vehicles are different to any other sort of product purchase, but under the sale of goods act, a product must be fit for purpose and durable for a reasonable amount of time, that being any amount of time for which that product could be expected to last under normal working conditions. But your contract is allways with the seller not the manufacturer, thus DAF trucks would not be liable nor a DAF dealer, but Kelberg as the seller are liable, although your service agent could be said to have a contract to honour if they regularly maintain your vehicle, and the vehicle is now not fit for purpose I think i’ve got this right, but if the service agent are messing about then a check of purchase law may be worth a look
I had a bad feeling about this whole venture from his first post, but not being an expert on former Eastern Bloc or hazardous I kept my opinions to myself.
However, what really worried me was, how on earth do you carry ammunition to a country (N.Cyprus) which is recognised by only one other country in the whole world - ie Turkey?
Unless of course, the docs say Turkey, in which case he may be in even more trouble than he is already.
i hope it’s not how it looks, someones offered daft money for someone daft enough to take the job on? obvious now why he couldn’t go through Greece!
i just hope he’s not tried to blag it and come unstuck.
Wheel Nut:
I reckon the best help he could get is by employing Truckys Mr,s.
And didnt his reply to me say that Class 1.4 was not hazardous by road?
your right malc he said that he didnt need orange boards or stickers and you didnt need to declare it but BULLETS i would have thought they would have to be declared but to be fair it does say in rob’s post that…
Rob K:
Long story cut short - snip - plod and customs came out after discovering that he didn’t have a special permit to transport ammunition across Bulgaria. Customs made it clear to him that it wasn’t his fault, he should have been given the special permit at the border at Ruse. .
Glad you’re ok and things are getting sorted.
From reading the reports it seemed you might be in a right old mess, but I think Rob’s done a great job in keeping us informed.
Not doubting you, but just amazed that ammunition doesn’t come under ADR.
