I would say that about half the broken down cars I deal with in the roadworks, live lane due to no hard shoulder, have ran out of fuel. A lot of them J12 Northbound, just past the services.
These drivers should get a ticket and fine!!
I was just going to say the same thing. It is fuel related in most cases I think. I notice when I go out with friends and family that the vast majority of them drive around with the needle on empty as āitās fine, itāll do another 25 miles yetā and āthereās no point carrying around extra weight with petrol prices as they areā . Personally I get paranoid about running out of fuel and itās very rare the needle will even get to red before I fill her up, but I always carry a jerry can of derv in the back anyway.

I look at a full tank of fuel as an investment, itās 1 of the only things Iāll own thatāll go UP in valueā¦
65 litres in tank at 1.35 / litre, drive to work and back and prices go upto 1.38 / litre, Iām in profit.
But why are they getting rid of hard shoulders when the M25 is such a bad road anyway? I Love to be on there on a weekend doing 80 on the inside lane when all the numpties are doing 65 in lane 3! Itās a total waste of money to make it a 4 lane carriageway because itās congested with the usual ādonāt pass me as Iām doing 70ā brigade in the third lane! Makes my wee wee boil!!!

Yes thatās usually my plan too, although I always seem to end up filling up just before the ppl drops by a few pence.
I find the āfuel price w/cā thread on here quite useful for gauging which direction fuel prices are likely to be heading for the coming week.

The hard shoulderās the best bit in some places.
Pavoroti I take it you have never experienced a breakdown in your car or truck LUCKY YOU if you havent. Or is it that you haveny really been very far in either. I notice as well everybody that holds you up is a PLONKER I think you might have an attitude problem there.

This is an interesting concept even if its not a new one. A complete intolerance of others mistakes.Would you agree that when the HA gets things wrong and warns us of lane closures and traffic hold ups and we turn off to avoid them and they are long gone or not there, that they too should pay recompense for their actions?

Eddie.
Eddie. A car breakdown can not be compared with a truck breakdown. One would hope and expect that wagons dont breakdown as a result of bad maintinence or running out of fuel as i believe is the case with most car breakdowns. not forgeting that trucks are under extreme use many running 247
I have not had a car breakdown since i was a daft and skint teenager. Maybe im lucky that since then i can afford to service and fuel my cars.
As for how far i have or have not traveled and having a bad attitude i really couldānt comment.

As I mentioned before, Iāve had driveshafts / cv joints go without warning, and 2 gearboxes that were full of neutralsā¦
No maintenance issues, just things that do break.
I used to do recovery, and mostly I picked up cars with ECU faults, turbo failures, head gasket failures, clutch failures etcā¦
