Break times

If I start at 6 am do about1 hour driving the rest other work, have a 15 at 10:50. When’s the next one due? Experienced driver I work with reckons 3. I thought it was 12?

I’d say 12 under WTD.

1105 to 1705 then another 15 break minimum

If working hours over 9 hours for the shift then yet another 15 for WTD needed to make up the 45 needed

All this assuming no driving time breaks needed

Thats not correct.

No it isn’t, just re read the original post. Because there’s a 15 minute break in the first 6 hour period, no further break is due until 9 hours which is 1500. Still Wtd assuming a 4.5 driving break is needed first.

There is not a 9 hour required WTD break requirement

WTD for drivers requires two things

A total amount of breaks for the total of the working time done in a shift

At no point in the shift shall a driver do more than 6 hours work without at least a 15 min break

That’s still not correct. Now go and see ROG for some remedial WTD!

Although some experienced drivers, CPC trainers, and TM’s would have you believe you are in fact in the right for both your posts! And therein lies the problem! I should know, I was one of those wallies :open_mouth:

No further break is due until 6 hours after the end of the first break. As long as you complete the requirement of having the proper length of break for the shift you are doing (and the break cannot be put on to the end of a shift)

If you have a smartphone (Apple or Android) you might consider investing a few pounds in TruckerTimer. This app is programmed with all the driver hours regulations and WTD limits, and helps warn you how much time you have left before your next rest requirement. That way, even if you’re not sure, the app probably is and will help you avoid infringements through lack of knowledge, understanding, confusion or mis-information.

I find it takes a lot of the worry and doubt out of my day, telling me exactly when I’m going to need to park up and rest next.
