Hi everybody I am getting different answers about when to take my break.
So I would start work on Sunday evening at 19.30 and finish at 06.00 on Monday morning. The joys of being a night shift worker
My question is when do I take my break ? And is it better to do 15 minutes first and 30 minutes later or just take the full 45 minutes at once ?

Whenever you want to! As long as it fits in the regs of course
You must have taken a break by the time you have accumulated 4.5 hours driving or accumulated 6 hours of work, which ever comes first.
I tend to split mine, as I prefer it. Others may not, each to their own.
Is someone telling you something different because you are a night worker, or because your shift spans the Sunday/Monday?

At what point in the shift do you usually reach ā¦
4.5 driving time
6 hours working time
Take your break when you need it as long as it conforms to the regs. I book on and load some times Iāll have to wait before loading so Iāll get a 15 in after doing a loop of the yard purely for my own requirements. Then slap it on POA till I go and load.
All loved I bang on down the road tip reload have a 30 which then allows me to pop on back and finish but thereās nothing stopping me from having another break on top of it like I did last night.
I usually take mine at midnight until 00.45 but if I want to split it can someone give me a few examples of what time to take it ?
I do a mixture of driving and loading and unloading so cant really give a accurate reading of just driving time. All these regulations make my blood pressure go high
Any examples from anyone ā ā ?

As every respondent has said its really up to you, and what you personally want to do.
I like options. As such I nearly always have a break of 15 minutes, at a point which is suitable after a couple of hours. Then I take a further 30 minutes when either my 4.5 hours drive is up, or I feel like having a break as its a little over half way through my shift.
But that is just my preference. Whatās yours?
Normally the same as yours, as it keeps things simple!
A 15 minute mid morning coffee is a nice chill, and 30 mins later is more than enough before I want to crack on againā¦
I generally split mine as I find it works better for me on pallet multi drop as you get numerous opportunities to get a 15 in before 6 hours then usually have 2 to 2.5hrs driving left at this point once Iāve run this out Iāll take my 30 to refresh driving and wtd and this will usually see me through to the end of my shift and on the odd occasion it doesnāt Iāll have a 45 to gain access to remaining driving

Iām on class 1 pallet drops and as you explained, the 30 min break (following a 15) will reset the driving time, but unlike you, Iāve never come close to needing another 45 to access the remaining driving time. They work you mate!

I did say that, my statement is that a 30 min break follows on from a 15, so the 15 happens first.

I have no issues going within the same minute of it hitting 30, but Iāve noticed that it takes the tacho another minute to register and reset thingsā¦
