Brand New FH Unit - Ad Blue Probs

Anyone else had issues with it? Seems it’s a known fault on the new FH

Show’s ad blue warning and imminent loss of torque if not rectified.

We’ve got a unit been in last week, Volvo are aware of the problem but aren’t sure how to fix it.
The same unit has thrown the problem up again today - back to the workshop it goes…

The 14 plates at the place I’m at are causing all sorts of problems and spend more time back at the dealer. Current issues are leaking Ad-blue tanks and from dashboard “water in fuel filter” which is putting them into limp mode. Also having issues with the driver side window stopping about half inch short at the top so that when driving along there’s a deafening wind noise and you can shove your finger in between the glass and window seal in the top front corner. Cab mounts creaking like crazy on them with less than 50k on the clock is another really annoying problem. Build quality on them is absolutely terrible.

Left hand down!:

Come back ERF/Foden/Seddon:Atkinson all is forgiven .

Don’t wish too hard for the last 2 !

One out of 3 cant be bad !!!.

Purge air pressure too low in diffuser valve.
Pain in the arse.

Happens a lot if you stop the engine without full air in the all the air tanks (especialy high pressure auxiliary tank which feeds diffuser valve, suspension etc).Adblue is left in diffuser and the heat off the engine evaporates the water in the adblue and crystals form in the diffuser blocking the feed apature. This then puts the light on as it monitors adblue flow into the exhaust system.

Remove air feed pour a kettle of boiling water into the valve to melt the crystals, reconnect the air and rev engine to max for a few seconds. This removes fault but you need diagnostic to turn off the light.

Sounds about right that mate - for the problems it’s been having.

Just briefed our drivers so they are aware - cheers

The one i drive is heavy on add blue, other faults so far, centre of steering has worn away ,knob on drivers interior door lock has broke off twice, nearside kerb mirror dropped off,all these are common faults with all of them on the fleet not just mine, the older model was a lot better made inside but i wouldnt like to swap it back, for me aside the little faults i love it

They do seem happy with the 2 we have - 2 more on the way also…

Touch wood none of your faults have appeared, but one of the drivers fridges stopped working - he almost cried when telling me.

The drivers side window is a proper pain. The only way to get round it is close it when stationary. If you try to close whilst on the move it doesn’t shut properly and sounds like a jet engine coming from your wing mirror!

Yep! That’s exactly what happens. Surely some sort of design fault and not meant to be like that? It’s a load of ■■■■ whatever it is.

Another thing which annoyed me is when pulling out from under a heavy trailer. You have to give the pedal enough beans for the ECU to register it’s being pressed in order for it to release the hand brake, which leads to you suddenly being launched out from underneath the trailer somewhat faster than you’d like. From a bit of trial and error I’ve found the solution to this problem is to press the brake pedal and accelerator pedal at the same time :open_mouth: and then once the ECU releases the hand brake, slowly ease your foot off the foot brake whilst giving it just enough beans to pull forwards. It sounds more drastic than what it is in reality and allows nice smooth control when decoupling. I still much prefer the mk1 FH models :frowning: . You can keep your 14/64 plates.

Im still having issues with my steering wheel.it doing my head in now its got worse,im takin in for service myself next tuesday for first time,im gunna get into their ribs and see what they say

OOOPS double post ,im gettin annoyed

I drove two different motors and they both had the same problem with the drivers window noise.
If you drop the passenger window while moving, you can put the drivers side up and it seals properly.
That’s my free tip of the day. [WINKING FACE]

That being said, I still think it’s world’s apart from the “classic” fh cab. Far better in every way (and that’s coming from a big volvo fan)

I agree, its still a new lorry, once the few little problems are sorted its bang on ,everybody is raving about the mp4 though for fuel and comfort, ive never been in one,i see brian yeardley has gone for 13 new mercs because of fuel and poor dealership from volvo, they were all volvo at one bit.

we have 5 two with problem windows 3 have had adblue problems 1 with EBS problem off road for a week all in all build quality crap dealer backup (THOMAS HARDIE NORTH WEST) even worse there that good weve had a courtesy vehicle for the last month because weve had so many problems
