Brakes Highbridge to close

Was tipping in there today and the lads were telling me that they’ve been notified that the depot is closing by Jan 2017. Apparently they are closing Highbridge, Bristol and Yate depots and making one “super depot” on the old Asda site at Portbury. There will be NO compulsory redundancies but they are changing a lot of the T’s & C’s which is causing a bit of resentment.

Shame - Highbridge is one of my favourite runs although I won’t miss Yate! Portbury is still a decent run though - judging by the plans they have on the wall on the way to the toilets the new site looks huge.
I hear rumours that they also plan to close Montgomery and Bodelwyddan and cover the areas voided from Warrington.

I assumed that Montgomery had already closed? I’ve not been there for over two years and it used to be a daily drop for us.

I wish they wouldn’t import Didcot Tesco style H&S local regulations though. - like they’ve just done at Harlow. :frowning:

That’s basically what they did with the Dukinfield and Rochdale and Runcorn depots. Closed them all and created a massive DC on the M62 Warrington. I know a lot of lads weren’t prepared to make the move from Manchester to Warrington so jacked it and went elsewhere.

Any drivers affected by this closure may be tempted to the new Domino’s Pizza contract starting in Highbridge. Chiltern Cold Storage (of Peterborough) is the operator.
Salaries are extremely attractive, if the advert is to be believed. Class 2 = £30k, class 1 = £35k. It is overnight shifts though.

Seeing as they’ve been bought out by some American outfit, I’d expect a few more smaller depots to go and (following things that we’ve done) be replaced by more modern sites

Brakes Highbridge is one of the better ones.

Yeo Valley on the other hand…
