Truckulent:
[zb] pay, [zb] hours, [zb] job…wouldn’t even consider it as isn’t paid well enough to take even a quarter of the aggro you’ll get!
I do the same type of work as the OP is talking about and and i actually find it very good pay (better than i used to get on class 1 distance),good hours (no w/ends,bank holidays, nights) and a good job.
As for the aggro,i find that if you work with the Chefs/Landlords and are polite and helpful you get very little,if any aggro at all.
I work for brakes, and it is hard work handballing but you get used to it, the money is very good and i only do 4-5 drops a day done for 2pm everyday start at 6am.

no gym needed either doing this job,
all brakes depots are different though,
have fun if you take the job…
Where’s the Brakes depot near Bradford?
Just curious - definately not applying!

My mate worked for them for 5 years. Most deliveries were to pubs, restaurants etc, but he enjoyed it. He only left cos they shut the local depot, now he does nights at Greggs
yeah no problem mate, sorry late reply been on holiday down cornwall… so much better than dudley haha. My day at brakes…
Started at 5.30am, introduced to a couple of drivers and transport staff, quite helpfull to be fair, after half hour of filling out crap paperwork I was given my run, thought they would of sent me out with another driver cus it was my first time with them. But no they gave me the keys, paperwork and that was it. Had 6 drops down milton keynes; i thought ‘great’ should have these done in no time, I was kidding myself haha. I finally pulled out of tamworth 6.45am strolled down to m.k then 1st drop was debenhams restuarant, easy. 2nd drop was harvester pub; lots of handball and dragging cages to the delivery point o and not to mention handballing the crap out the cages into the kitchen. 3rd and 4th drop was fairly easy but didnt have much stuff for them. 5th and 6th drop were both pubs and absolute ■■■■■■ nightmare!!! Mixture of chilled and frozen, had 6 pallets of frozen in total, all had to be handballed out of side door!! Very hard work. By the time id done all that and had break it was half 2. Stuck in traffic on m-way and didnt pull back in tamworth till half 4. Then you have to back on bay and unload empty cages and pallets. I did notice though the only drivers still there at that time were agency. Talking to 1 lad and he said they give the crap runs to agency drivers. All as I can say is if you like plenty of handball, sweating ya knackers off, then this is the ideal job for you! Not my cup of tea really, won’t be going there again. Was my 1st job for that agency so I had to show willing, but living in dudley and travelling to tamworth then having a long day like that isn’t for me. Anyway lads hope that is all the info you need!!
Hiya mick you applying at the depot in tamworth mate? My day wasen’t too good with them, but go for it if thats what you want mate. You working at the moment?
mickyblue:
Thinking of applying also with this lot
Well Micky, it’s around 26k I believe, and the below is about right for an easy day. As others have said, when you get a regular run and the hang of it, you can be done in 10hrs ish per day.

6 drops, a very short day. Most are more like 20 + drops, some a lot more, depends how far your drops are etc. 6 pallets of frozen’s about average, but what you’d normally get is 3 - 4 drops per pallet ‘seperated’ by some blue cling wrap stuff that disappears, but they definately put it on
Then, in the cages, they’ll put loads of soft light stuff at the bottom, stuff that’ll squash and deform, then put lots of heavy stuff at the top such as jars, bottles and fruit and veg that is in open boxes, so they fall over or break or just generally make a mess in the truck.
hahaha thats about right wayne, nearly every cage was top heavy with split boxes and sauce bottles piles on top loose! god it sounds like i had one of the decent runs then with only 6 drops on haha. Forgot to mention the dodgy rollers on the cages, nearly flipping everyone ha. Never again mate, never again haha
Jars and Tins on top of Cakes and Pasties is the old classic “top heavy” loads one sees in all corners of the industry.
I blame it on loaders not being able to read the English on the boxes, which you and I would look at to judge the weight of what is going on top of what!
…Of course you can’t say that, as it might sound ‘discriminatory’. You could argue it was an illiterate brit I suppose…? You could stop it all with “Loaders & Drivers Must have a GCSE in Maths & English” like you USED to have to have to get just about any job beyond shining shoes!
The sooner insurers see through this systemic claiming scam and refuse to insure spoilt loads above a certain value, the sooner we’ll be rid of the “no speake English” brigade who think it’s OK where I work to put boxes of nuts and bolts on top of glassware in the middle, and plastic cups at the bottom FFS! EVERY single night without fail!
Anyone able to read the clearly-lablelled boxes can SEE that this is an absolutely daft thing to do!
But no, goods get routinely destroyed in transit, and no one seems to care except the Customer who of course objects to getting half a crate of rubbish, broken glass, or even an empty box split down the side, the original contents long since spilt all over the floor of the trailer!
Stop INSURING this bullcrap loading and we’ll see improvements in the industry I’m sure!

Was one of those six the Slug and Lettuce in MK? It’s near one of my regular drops and I often see the hapless Brakes driver sat there waiting for the staff to turn up. More than once he has been there when I arrive, and I’ve traipsed eight cages down to my drop, waited for them to empty them, traipsed them back up to the motor, and started in on a brew before he gets his doors open.
