BP Boreham 100 litres = 27 minutes

Usually I avoid it like the plague but a manic day today had me going past this afternoon with an empty tank, so swung in to fill up.

Of the three lanes only the centre lane was in use and an empty car transporter was already using both pumps to fill up, I pulled up behind and waited. According to the tacho I sat there for 16 minutes before moving to the pump, the driver wasn’t doing his weekly shop and was in and out quite quickly. A look at the pumps and he’d taken 150 l on one tank and 170 on the other.

I only filled up with 100 litres although really needed about 250 as I just didn’t have the time to waste there. My time on the pump was 11 minutes, total time from pulling off the roundabout to rejoining was almost half an hour!

Every driver who uses the place hates it, and it has been like this on and off for ages. Apparently they waiting for the engineers to come up with a solution. I suggested that maybe some new pumps might be an idea. They close the outer lanes as if they are in use then it gets even slower.

What a joke this place is. Our firm has two lorries using about 1000 l / week and we seldom use it. I’m sure that they must lose tons of revenue like this.

Yeah well I stopped at a burger van in Petersfield today and in freezing blistering cold with a wind chill factor of about -10 stood there waiting for my food, and from when I left the cab and got back in with my baguette the tacho head showed 21 mins!!! Disgrace!!!

At least the Salmonella was probably killed off by the temperature!

I don’t know why a high-speed fuelling system can’t be developed for trucks similar to that used by F1 cars. It wouldn’t be difficult to fit all new trucks with high-speed sealed filler necks as well as the traditional type, and start rolling out high-speed pumps, transition period of 7-8 years should see it done, at 12 litres a second it would take less than 45 seconds to fill a 500 litre tank.

Sounds reasonable, maybe they should consult the Dids who have engineered a franchise of mobile high speed defuelling units.

I’ve just worked out on Google Maps that in the same time I could have just about got myself to the BP at Rivenhall South on the A12, filled up with 200 litres and got back to Boreham :unamused:

Now come on, you know that TruckNet admin consider it racist to say anything detrimental about the folk who go out looking to steal our diesel every single night… just roll over and let the ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ tickle your tummy.

Hey 8wheels,

Not wanting to go down the route of consipiracy theories here, but a few of our fuelling stations are suffering in the CM postcodes.

Saw the notice on the pumps at BP today about pump problems, but they always had problems at that garage over winter over the years (as you well know from experience too), something to do with the “anti-waxing” (is that what they are called) additives, especially when it is cold and during a night visit, they reckon?? The auto cut-offs won’t cut off in those conditions either supposedly, you must’ve have seen those signs :unamused:

I know this for a fact so far:

Springfield Sainsbury’s have lost 10 pumps out of 16 that can’t dispense diesel and have been like that for the last 5 weeks, with no solution in sight according to the staff working there. So only 6 pumps serving the whole forecourt Diesel. They used to have a fair few low loaders and concrete wagons going in, but haven’t seen any for a while, when I’ve visited.

And at Prince’s Road Tesco, they shut off 12 of the 16 pumps a fortnight ago and stopped serving diesel as a whole for 3 days? Not sure whether they are back up and running yet either as haven’t returned to my site near there or won’t until tomorrow!

Wonder who will be No.4!

Perhaps coryton are zbing in the supplies

Be interested to know the truth and who’ll lose a set of pumps next week.

Weirdly though for all of the above Unleaded is not affected at all, just Diesel.

I reckon some on here will know if you ask them…(Europe, Diddy’s, Government, Immigrants, UFO’s, Oil Companies, Stock Exchange, Multi-Conglomerates etc etc.)

I think Wetherby on the A1M are halfway there. You can put 300 litres in a tank in about 90 seconds!

I know one O/D low loader driver who used to fill up there has had some financial troubles and may or not still be operating. Also the batching plant at Danbury is mothballed so that source of mixers is no more either.

Interesting about the other garages though.

On Tuesday I stopped at the BP by the football ground at Colchester to get the rest of the fuel that I didn’t get at Boreham. In the shop to hand in card, when 100 litres had been pumped I checked the tacho = 2mins. Total stop for 170 litres plus using the toilet there was 8 minutes.

Yesterday at the Shell garage on the A127 about 8 minutes for 125 litres and that was only because it was busy.

Blimey really, I didn’t know that. Is that so the “new” quarry up at Great Dunmow can get started properly now?

Yeah a few fuel stations have had problems round here, that I know of. The Prince’s Road Tesco was back up and running when I went past yesterday to St John’s! Didn’t buy anything but the signs had been removed now.

Haven’t been to Springfield Sainsbury’s since that last fiasco, where it took 40 minutes to get to the pumps, stuck in the two lanes so couldn’t even turn round!

I’ve got to fuel up tomorrow in both vehicles, so I’ll see how well they are doing. Bad news about the low loader guy too, which is another shame for round here! :frowning:

Good news on the faster fueling times though, perhaps you should send them a quick comment of why can the pumps work in Colchester and not Springfield. Also they only done that place up about 4 years ago too

Where we fill have a set of HGV pumps that fill at a good rate, we used to have to watch filling 3.5 Tonners as it was very easy to blow it back out of the filler neck.

Still can put 100 quid in in about half a minute!

The Danbury plant has been run down fora while, I took their shovel to their Harlow plant last April / May time. I think they are running product out of Wickford & Harlow now. Danbury Haulage aka Danbury Aggregates is running the washing plant and is digging at the Royal Oak quarry Danbury. Not sure about the Highwood quarry at Gt Easton, we seem to have falen out of favour a bit at SRC and no longer have machines there or at Ardleigh Crown pit. They are looking at another sit in Goldhanger and have just put a couple more tippers and a pair of bulkers on the road so it’s all just another company.

Think I know the one you mean. Better off phoning up half hour before you get there. I could have got 2 drops done in the time it took for them to do me a sausage baguette last time I used it.
