Saw what looked like a funny situation last night at Letherhead. Going through overnight roadworks (down to 2 lanes) and DVSA were out looking for motors to stop. They have been there all week. After waiting by the bridge as they do, he’s seen his target and pulled out. As usual, the car drivers think they’re some kind of superpower so all slam on their brakes. On comes the amber ‘follow me’ box on his lightbar. With this, a litle polo who was in the next lane pulls in between the DVSA car and a double deck trunk motor and duly starts following. what left me giggling was the trunk driver siezing the opportunity, pulls out and overtakes them both leaving the little polo to follow the ministry to his checkpoint.
I did this once at Chadderton. The VOSA guy clearly wanted the tatty 7.5t behind me but there wasn’t enough space to get his Galaxy in between the truck and my car as we went round the roundabout so he got in front of me in a rather reckless manner with his follow me on - so I did to have a word with him about his driving standard. He wasn’t the most polite fella when he came to speak to me and we did have cross words before he wheel span back out of the check point. How rude!
These guys are supposed to be trained in stopping techniques but sometimes … well it’s a good job they don’t have blue lights (one day!)
I was heading up the m4 a few weeks ago when a wasp pulled in front of me with his follow me light on. He carried on at about 70 up to the next patrol cars only spit, I pulled in beside him on the h/s, about to question why he was stopping me there. When he saw me, he realised he’d left his light on by mistake, apologised, and waved me on. I thought it was a mistake, but wasn’t going to take a chance.

I was coming out of Blackwall Tunnel, I see him sitting there and think I’m clear. Silly ■■■■■■■■ then pulls out leaving me to slam on! Escorts me to site and I reported him. (bet they had a laugh about it)
soon as you see one, then pullout and do an elephant race alongside someone, puts the cabbage between a rock and a hard place working out how to get you in without the carnage…works best when your running with someone,
I had something similar once north of Newark on the A1M. A police car pulled in front of me just before the checkpoint there in the highways agency yard and his “Follow Me” light came on, with that an elderly gentleman in lane two veered across in front of me and proceeded to enter the checkpoint as well. I didn’t try it on and attempt an escape but just continued to followed the police car and the elderly gentleman. It was rather amusing watching all the irate hand signals the copper was giving out trying to get the car to bugger off though. When I got round in to the compound Vosa wanted to know why the hell I’d been pulled as I had a two week old trailer and a couple of month old truck and that there was obviously nothing wrong with me. He had a quick glance at my previous few days cards and sent me on my way. Said copper had obviously run out of targets as he approached the slip road to the checkpoint so nabbed me for lack of anything else.
Coming back out of Thurrock the other day heading onto the M25 and a vosa wagon with his lights on came past me on a roundabout way too fast, and flew straight through 2 sets of red lights and off up the sliproad… pretty sure only blue light vehicles can go through red lights. Someone thinks they have more authority than they actually do.
Saw one on the M4 by Newport this week…pulled in front of a EE lorry, gave it the old follow me lights, both doing about 50 so I end up overtaking them…short while later the DVSA motor turns his lights out and buggers off up the motorway leaving the EE lorry to go on its way.
