So, I’ve now got B, BE, C, CE, C1E, D, DE, D1, D1E
So before I couldn’t drive PSV/PCVs and trailers and now I don’t have the actual category for C1, even though the C would cover that…
So have I improved, been degraded, or just moved sideways?
See my comments here.
This sounds right if you had a pre-1997 car licence, C and D entitlement before taking your CEÂ test.
CE upgrades your DÂ to DE. D allows you to tow a trailer up to 750kg MAM behind a PCV, DE removes the trailer MAMÂ restriction.
If you took CE on a manual transmission vehicle, CE will remove any 78 (automatic only) restrictions from all your B, C and D family categories. Indeed, manual C removes 78 restrictions from all B, C and D categories other than the +E versions, so if you had automatic only D it most likely had the restriction removed when you took your C test. Bus companies tend to put drivers in for their DÂ test on an automatic bus these days, as manual buses are extinct on stage fare work and many coaches are now automatic. Probably the most common manual PCVÂ these days is a manual minibus on a van chassis.
C1E, D1 and D1EÂ are presumably shown with the restriction codes relevant to a pre-1997 car test (i.e. C1E 107, D1 101 and D1E 101 119) and ‘until 70’ validity. The C1 from your pre-1997 car test is likely hiding because it has no restriction codes and you hold full C anyway. If you hold a full category you automatically have entitlement to all subcategories with the same restriction codes, so you can drive C1E totalling more than 8.25t MAMÂ and drive minibuses for hire and reward (assuming you have a Driver Qualification Card showing PCVÂ DCPC or you held D before September 2008 and therefore have grandfather rights to PCVÂ initial DCPC until September 2013).

I still think complaints are in order but not just yet.
What do you think there is to complain about? It looks right to me.

Right now I shall get work first, that is the priority! I have already sorted out refresher training on a regular artic in a local training company that has a regular sized artic; DAF 95XF with a twin axle box trailer. Just a tad bigger than the W&D I did my CE with
That sounds like a good plan - get CE on a wagon and drag, then take some conversion training on an artic. It’s certainly Peter Smythe’s suggested route and is becoming increasingly popular now that a W&DÂ pass gives unrestricted CE. This way, the training providers can use the same vehicle for C and CE.
All the best with the job hunt.
