Boots store deliveries

is this own account? someone said it was dhl??

Was it West Transport years ago? If I’m right I doubt it would have gone back in house.

Boots is DHL in Birmingham, shared warehouse with TK Maxx, don’t know about else where.

DHL in Avonmouth, shared warehouse with TX Maxx & Currys / PC World.

Use to be in-house

Used to be Bibby Distribution in Scotland but I think its DHL now.

Or was it Tibbet & Britten maybe?

Still DHL in Scotchland, a nice wee number with plenty agency shifts available 24,7. West transport based in Nottingham does/did plenty subbie work for boots often bringing the trunks up too Lymm and Carnforth.

Westies dont do boots anymore, DHL are in charge in Nottingham. They have also now recruited eddie stobs in to do sub work as they can’t get the staff to work there.

How come? Boots is very popular in Scotland a cushy number on agency and if perm jobs are going would be grabbed instantly as well paid.

Could be something to do with interviewing people one day and offering them a job months later and expecting them to drop their life for the glorious chance of a start at the blue chip company. Or the fact that there are a lot of rules that a lot of drivers don’t like, for example no stopping on route unless absolutely necessary, and then having to phone in and tell them why you had to stop. No stopping for food, no stopping for ■■■ or paper etc etc and if you don’t have a break in the depot they tell you to again you get moaned at despite a serius lack of facilities. You aren’t even allowed to use the boots staff canteen on their own site! :unamused:
I don’t think it is a bad job on the trunk side, 26k and the drivers don’t go over their 48 hour average on the whole. Some folk don’t want to work weekends either, in fact some folk just don’t want to work!
Much worse jobs out there though if you ask me.

do they still do the shunting for 3 hours before you go on a trunk? that was the only bit that hacked me off about boots oh and the fact they stopped overtime slashed sat rates to mid week and made sunday a pittance (all on agy mind). but would much rather drive for them than west’s never in my life been into such a shower of a firm :open_mouth: .

No, I asked if they wanted me to cover shunting once to be told I have not been trained how to move trailers their way. Fair enough, only they expect me to pull full trailers on before a run or put empty’s back on when I am done so what is the difference? :unamused: No bother to me, also not allowed to use a tail lift unless you sign the form to say you have been trained by an official trainer  There is a lot of bull but if I was looking for a permanent driving job I would certainly put up with working tue-sat for the wages and what they do. Money for old rope even if a little boring.

sorted! that was the only thing that annoyed me when dhl 1st took over you were asked to do shunting for a few hours prior to a run! yes i have to admit as far as easy work goes there cant be much more simple than boots! used to enjoy the holyhead run on a sat afternoon when sunny :sunglasses:

They dont send many of them anymore as it has become a problem with drivers running over their hours too often. I sat in the canteen once for 2 hours and was sent there, then there was a crash in stoke on A500. Then I needed 2 45’s as I didn’t make it in first 4.5 hours drive, then couldnt find the trailer at the doc… Ended up doing 14.5 hour shift, I didnt mind obviously but the permanent drivers do, they moan whatever they get.

cant beat a good old west hallam shift now that is some easy work!

I work there myself and it’s a doddle. Yeah they are H&S mad but what company isn’t now a days. Im on the trunking side as I don’t fancy much of the shop work like I used to do. Only odd things that are a big bare is no stopping unless you need to and you need to ring in to let them know. The other is salary which yeah is all well and good when You get some easy runs and not get held up. But when we do a Nottingham to Dronfield near Sheffield then over to Carlisle then back. With only allowed to break and change over points it does make it a long night knowing full well you are only getting payed the same as someone doing West Hallam a few times.
But as I’ve come from a place where it’s all handball into this job which is all driving and trailer changes, it’s a piece of cake

If it’s DHL then it’s great at first but they take more than they give in the end!

As for H&S - it only applies when there’s no pressure at quiet times of the year and they can be bothered but when or if it gets busy they expect you to ignore it ‘‘for the good of or needs of the business’’. And watch out if you decline to do something because of a health and safety issue - it turns into a gross misconduct thing for refusing ‘‘a reasonable management request’’ and you are shown the door - bunch of to**ers!! :imp: :smiling_imp:

Rant off! - I’d rather be unemployed than work for them - honest!

From personal experience I guess? All I do is show up on time drive to the best of my ability and go home safe each night. There has been a fatality at one of our depots (avonmouth I think, not sure) through what fault I don’t know either. But there was plenty of condolences around

At our site it applies 24/7/365, you are never expected to rush or cut corners or take out defective vehicles.

Sure is! I was absolutely flabbergasted when I was told! But hey ho! It’s off to tribunal we go! Can’t say too much but as my dad says ‘they couldn’t beat us in a war so we bleedin’ let ‘em buy it all instead!’ and now we pay ze price! lol

He reckons and I agree that when all is sold we will all become ‘cheap or cheaper’ labour anyway.
