Boots on the step...

Hi all, new to the forum so excuse me if this is a regular question.

I started leaving my boots on my top step around 3 years ago but I’m finding safety boots are only lasting around 3-4 months due to the rear of the boot crumpling every time I take them on and off.

In my job I require water resistant boots with a toe cap (composite or steel). I get out a lot on farms that have ankle high puddles so a trainer isn’t really ideal.

I’ve tried a couple of dealer boots and also lace up ones just loosely tied. Both have succumbed to the same untimely retirement issues!

So I’m looking for recommendations as to which boots you all use and are resistant to multiple on/off actions per day.

On a side note, anyone got a fix for the leaking scania drivers door issue that soaks your boots when it rains please? Seems to be in any scania I’ve used so had to cover the boots with a carrier bag before setting off?

Thanks for your help!

Having driven most models of trucks over the last 20 years as a tramper wishing to keep the inside floor clean by kicking off my boots/shoes on the top step before closing the door…i can honestly say the only one that reliably keeps your boots/shoes dry is a Volvo FH, every other one seems to let some or a lot of moisture in and ruins the boots/shoes in a few months

It’s because there is no seal on the lower section of the door so there’s no chance anything sat on the steps would stay dry when driving on wet roads. Have a look at the inside of the door on a CF or XF for example - the seal only goes around the cab area. You can easily get your fingers in the gap around the middle step when the door is closed and that’s where the spray gets in.

Don’t know about those boots , but my work boots from screw fix wore out ( soles ) in 5 months , credit to them , no quibbles , they changed them for a new pair there & then

I find it easier just to get in and out with boots on then clean mats every night. Then at week ends just go over mats with a upholstery foam cleaner they stay like new and no dancing on steps with chance of boots dropping out .

not cheap but i had my last pair for 4 years

Me too. I am reliably informed that a good percentage of the “slips, trips and falls” from lorry cabs come as a result of the gymnastics required to change footwear whilst hanging out of a cab. Tried it for a while and found it more hassle than it’s worth. My boots of course stay in the driver’s side when I park up; my Actros has rubber mats both sides anyway so if I do get muck on them it just rinses off.

Used to have a plastic box strapped to the drivers side catwalk when I was on bulk tippers doing cow farm tips. Waterproof rigger boots in there with a 99p door mat. Drive in gateway on nice clean concrete, jump out with trainers on. Change into rigger boots from box on catwalk, put 99p mat in drivers footwell. Do delivery, back to clean concrete. Put mat and riggers back in box and trainers on, give pedals a quick wipe off and away.
End of the day its farm stuff, they’re dirty places and a lot of the time because they are also tight as hell you need to jump out and have a look slipping boots off just isn’t practical. Boots on the step for things like RDC fridges when all you need to to is jump out on the clean and open back doors is not a bother. Farm stuff would rather spend a few mins wiping down a rubber mat at days end than spend a fortune on boots being broken down at the heels.

Oz overboots do redbacks at a fairly keen price. Used their over boots when I was on the farm too, great bits of kit when wearing shorts. Stops stones, grain and all sorts getting in.

As the screw fix ones were leaking I wore the stobart ones , now I’ve a spare new pair to wear when the stobart ones wear out , hope that clears it up for you , called using common sense , something you sadly lack

On my farm deliveries for particular shut holes I have a pair of wellies in side locker.
If the farm yard ain’t too bad I’ll just get out in my boots, but I have a fairy liquid bottle filled with soapy water in door pocket, so I use that to spray each boot before I get back in the cab ,so.I am getting back in with clean boots.
I also have a bag of boot covers,.which are basically plastic bags to fit over your boots, but I ain’t got around to trying them yet.

Btw @dozy, just wondering which team you support mate.

Now you know which team I support rob & you’ll see that flag , shirt on seat , scarf in the lorry , you’ve not got any excuse not to come over & say hello ( hopefully you won’t do what everyone else does , take a look & run a mile !! ) .
Over the years I’ve had loads who’ve looked , then are gone , one who must of done a 2 mile detour round the perimeter of strensham n/b to get back to his cab
Looking forward to having a free coffee with you !
