BMW drivers

bobthedog:
There is nothing wrong with any of the cars really, not even BMWs, but the attitude with either Jag or Beemer is one of superiority. Take our hijacker here. A thread about scabs becomes a political pile of ■■■■■■■■, as does one about unions, as does one about LPG…

Now the thread about BMWs is rapidly turning into something else. And my buick started at -38 last week without being plugged in. Lets see either of your Jags do that.

In the US, BMW are more of an image than a car, much more so than in the UK. They are really quite insane about it.

Rob, you’re gonna end up bursting vessels before too long  . I have an easy solution for you and it works wonders. Click here and type in the names of the offending party(ies). Done.

99.9% of BMW drivers are ignorant, arrogant morons. They have no idea what that stalk on the left handside of the steering column is for. Whenever I see a bmw approaching I`m ready for them to pull a retarded manouvere. I treat them differently and rightly so. I love to hold them up, I could have waited for you to pass but I pulled out just to pi55 you off

Some recognition at last  . I was beginning to lose faith in this thread.

i very nearly didn’t by the bmw, because of the whole image thing that went with it.
but the model i got, (a 1994) was the last of the hand built m5’s and is regarded as one of their best ever, so thought balls to the image, and got it anyway :grimacing:
great car, for a big motor, its nimble, and goes “quite quickly”
i have since found out, that if you de-restrict my model, they are good for 177mph :grimacing:
best leave it then, its been hard enough learning not to use those annoying stalk thingies

Agreed. Nothing wrong with the actual cars, it’s the image created by people falling for the advertising. When I look through the window of a BMW I expect to see hot headed arrogance or mind numbingly shallow vanity. Not always the case. Some nice people also drive BM’s. I was shocked when recently my dad got one after decades of calling BM drivers [zb] :stuck_out_tongue:

Sad how the advertising people can manipulate the little people though. Anyone remember an audi advert a few years ago which portrayed the car as some sort of predatory spider creeping up on its prey and destroying it? They could have highlighted superior audi engineering, safety features, one of the most reliable cars on the market etc, but no … they went with ‘this car is evil. this car kills other cars. this car is HARD goddamit’. Sad to say, but they probably got their advert right. People are more likely to buy a car that is advertised as cool and superior than buy a car that will save your life and save you money. What kind of person were they appealing to ffs?

End rant

The image thing has nothing to do with choosing a car like the M5.The ‘image’ issue applies to ‘some’,not all,of those 3 series and 5 series lower spec power option buyers, who think that just because it’s got the same badge that it’s in the same league and it’s that lot who probably started off the stereotype concerning driving standards. But that rant seems like the type of pc argument that got all adverts that put (what the authorities considered as) excessive emphasis on performance banned.

But it will probably take a ‘lot’ longer than a mile from a standing start to get there (or 165 mph) and how many revs will it need to be turning over at to maintain that speed in top considering that the Jag motor can put out more power at around 1500 rpm less. :open_mouth:
