Blue tech 6 Mercedes actros 1840

Terry T:
Here’s all the seat controls. Pretty sure it’s 13 for suspension stiffness but it might be 11. Can’t be 100% without being in the cab. Either way it’s deffo behind your knees.

He said STIFFNESS

I’ve had my Actros for about 18 months now and still feel like I am sitting too high even with the seat fixed with all the air dumped out. It took me ages to get used to it as I usually drive in a lounged laid back super cool trucker stylee, :sunglasses: …being as that is just what I am  :unamused:

Tang stylee lol

A few people I know (including myself) dump the air out of the seat and drive it like that.
The hard/soft setting doesn’t exist, Mercedes think everyone wants the same setting. Press the button on the front of the off side RIGHT IN, then it will dump or go up, don’t just press it a bit!
Put the keyless thing in the hole, give it a light touch, that will be the equivalent of having a normal key turned to the 1 position, give it another touch and the ignition comes on, push it right in to start/stop it.
I wouldn’t worry too much with the limiter thing, unless you drive around town a lot, just set it to the maximum speed you want to go. if you press the top button on the right hand side of the steering wheel, it will switch from limiter to cruise control, you can tell by the dash which setting you have.
I pulled the brake lever down onto the 3rd setting and it said on the computer something like ’ you are going too fast for this to work’!!! It is crap on any setting tbh.
Can’t think what switches are around the hazard lights, as I’ve only been driving one for 3 weeks, a 64 plate 510, and it hasn’t got a lot of poke in it, and I’ve slept on more comfortable floors than the bed in it.

Hows it rate to the volvo you had kindle

My motor hasn’t got that many switches/ buttons etc. for a start it hasn’t got 1 2 6 or 7.
Even with the air on lowest setting, it is still too high, if it was a bit lower I would put up with it.
It’s great for being parked up seth, that’s about the only thing it beats the Volvo on!

They must be real poverty spec then. We don’t have all the frills either but we at least have suspension on them. Don’t think I’ve ever been in an artic without them, certainly not a modern one.

I drive lots of different new model Actros’s in my day job. I’m six foot tall and always have the seat pushed fully back but, if you don’t fold the lower bunk against the back wall it constantly fouls the seat movement. I find every truck needs minute adjustment as you relax into your normal position. Tilting the base backwards to level, or slightly leaning back makes a big difference but is difficult with the lower bunk down. I usually set the switch for deflection to one notch down with gives slight suspension but not excessive bounce. I find that you need to fine tune the tilt and height and back rest angle as you ‘settle in’. The seat and steering wheel adjustment are some of the few good points of the new Actros.

So that’s why the beds are always folded up. Been wondering about that ever since ours arrived on the fleet.

We keep all ours up it gives you more room and saves the back of the seat having holes in it plus it possibly might keep it cleaner as it’s that light beige colour.

I’ve been driving a DPD 14 plate actros for a bit and wasn’t impressed with the retarder for a the first couple of weeks driving it (no manuals in the cabs for some reason btw ) . I’ve found the best way to control the down hill speed without revving the bollox off it is to get the retarder lever down a notch before the speed gets up too far , then use foot break for a couple of seconds to choose the speed you want and let the retarder do the rest . If it’s a steep long hill click the retarder down another notch if needed .

puts on tin hat !!

Revving the bollox off it is how they work best.

Fair few differences between the Axor and Actros, took me a while to find/get used to all the different controls.

If you’ve a lot of long steepish downhill sections on your run disengage the ecoroll thing, stops it surging as gravity takes hold then the limiter kicking in and faceplanting you into the windscreen. Trouble is you have to do this every bloody time you you start off.

And who was the feckwit who decided beige was a good colour for a lorry interior

Its a crappy detroit engine and the bloody things need to be screaming for the “exhaust” brake to work.Thats why it has to downshift. And linked into that god awful bloody gearbox whatever cretin designed this piece of garbage must have been some kind of idiot.

How the hell they have the neck to sell this garbage is beyond me.The old axor was no wunder machine but compared to this tripe it was a piece of engineering excellence.

The engine was a bit gutless - but all the euro 6 engines seem a bit gutless to be honest.

The gearbox is pretty pants compared to the Volvo’s but it’s ok if you manually get it into the right gear when coming up to roundabouts.

But the rest of it, imho, makes up for that. The cabin is fantastic, the seat worked for me and I just liked driving it. In fact I preferred it to Volvos.

Discovered a handy new trick with the Merc today. In the drive time menu it displays your weekly driving totals, there are two green dots above your weekly driving time, if you do a ten hour drive then one of them green dots turns white, if you do two then they both turn white to remind you that you aint got any 10’s left. Petty maybe, but I like ■■■■ like that!

Actros seat hurts me back compared to the Axor or Volvo FH. It hunches my posture over, whereas on the Volvo you can recline back the top half.

Also I don’t understand why Actros is bumpier than the Axor. And I’ve driven plenty of both. This combined with the Actros seat, kills my neck toward the end of the week.

Nice tip, didn’t know that.

■■■■■■00:
Switches around the hazard cluster that I didn’t recognise.

I came across a button in an Actros that was just a picture of a Mercedes logo. Anyone know what this does? It didn’t seem to do anything in mine?!

It illuminates the merc badge on the front of your truck.
