Dame Valerie Singleton who was a tv presenter for the children’s show Blue Peter is objecting to 49 new homes in Templecombe near Wincanton , Somerset .
Numerous residents have set up an action group against their council , Valerie quoted to Somerset Live online paper that she will dread delivery lorries .Locals have said they chose to live in a quiet village and not a town .
So these folks have made some money to afford an overpriced house but deny others the chance to own their own home , and dread lorries , unless the Royal Navy base use helicopters to deliver building materials , what do they expect will do the job , wheelbarrows and transit vans ?
Yeovilton air base is not far away , maybe they should ask the Wing Commander .

NIMBYs is what you get in a safe seat ward, where whatever local government happens to be firmly in power there - won’t ever change anything, regardless of what locals want.
What they WON’T risk - is people leaving the area rather than coming to it.
“Building more houses” does have the effect of coaxing more people in - does it not?
If you want to drive people away - then you need to make houses fetch actual high selling prices (rather than “only sold for BTL”) and then proceed to build no houses ever, including flats above shops, and of course the SHOPS.
Amenities, Location, Transport Links, Local Employment, Good School nearby, Faces Green Land, etc etc.
…a picture which has become rather distorted these days with “Schools out”, “Green Land being Built on” “NO local employment” and “NO Transport links”.
Amenities? - Won’t even be coming back in some areas… Whole rows of “shopping parades” in small towns - will either thrive (by breaking rank early) or will observe the lockdown to the bitter end, only to find out that their former customers now boycott that store, having found a new re-sourcing of the stuff they used to buy at the “Local shops for Local People”…
