Blowing exhaust

A short flexible concertina section of exhaust has rusted through and split. Duly defected but told by boss it will be fine until next pmi in a month or so. We disagree on this.

What would you say plod’s opinion would be if they came across it when pulled. Points for the driver? CU offence? Would they put a PG9 prohibition for something like that? I already know it needs to be sorted but how seriously would they take it?

Note it is coming out just after the manifold so before any sensors for adblue etc.
Edit to add… Inside Lez so I was thinking raw untreated exhaust is likely to be frowned on.

size and type of vehicle and depending on the emissions as to are fumes entering the cab etc dictates different responses.

If its loud it could be seen as a nuisance or dangerous to the extent that your hearing being impaired etc

Knock yourself out

Its going to get a prohibition notice, the only difference is if its immediate or delayed.

As its leaking at a point where fumes can get into the cab its an immediate prohibition. Had it been at the other end it’d be a delayed prohibition unless the exhaust was about to drop off which is a possibility given its a split on a flexi.

It will not be fine until the next PMI. Its a MOT failure so it shouldn’t be going out of the yard. Personally if he continues to insist on you driving it, at the next open checkpoint you see voluntarily drive it in and voice your concerns to the wheeltappers.

You could always pretend it’s a Scanny and Rev the nuts off it complete with uneccessary throttle blips between gear changes.

Yeah it does sound good. Engine just doubled in size. :sunglasses:

Dont worry about it it will cost the SOB about 10p a mile extra cos you got not back pressure.

Keep your foot down.

:grimacing:

It’s a serious defect and if it’s loud you cannot deny knowing of it …and its YOUR licence .

Park it ! FFS he is going to have to repair it anyway so just loosing 1/2 day is not going to break him , and if it is it’s time to look for a new job.

Simple question

Would it pass the MOT as it is ■■?
In other words, is it legal ■■
