Blood, Sweat and Broken China (the Removals thread)

Great pics and good to see this thread bumped up again. I had a 2100 DAF, same as yours, with the sleeper cab + luton conversion. Lots of space to live in although the upstairs got to ■■■■ hot to sleep in when down in southern Europe in the summer. Good size engine though for the body size and weight carried. Think it had a maximum 2200 cubic foot body! Got anymore pics?

Hi Bullit - yes the DAF 2100 was a great removal truck. I bought it secondhand from Abels, as I did with my first truck, the Bedford TK.
I’ve got loads more photos so I’ll put up a few on this thread over the next few weeks.

A few more from Pickford’s days

More recently using a couple of these

The good old Bedford, workhorse of the British Removal industry, four speed box (5 in the later models!!) and Armstrong steering!

Are Pickfords going back to the old tailboard design on thier vans.?
Sure i see one of thier scannies the other day, with that set up.

Did any of you removal chaps ever own / run / drive a DAF 1900, reg number A14 ETR or BTR? If you did then this is where it ended up…

Looking at the “V” on the front of the Luton, was that Vanguards?

John masons still run 18ton. Daf. A15 BTR. [emoji598][emoji106]

My memory (ha ha, what memory) of Vanguards is of a different logo altogether. See this for example:

I wonder if the ‘V’ means the body was built by Vanplan? Ask Carl Williams for a better guess.

Way too slow uphill, and far, far, far too fast down the other side.

You’re right about the 2100, it was a very good removals wagon.

I know I’ve posted this before, but what the heck. Here’s C386 BBU, a 2100 with a 2100cube body, used to shift anything and everything. These were never quick - 150bhp from 8.25litres - but they were dogged, reliable and not shy of being overloaded. Thank [zb] for the 6-speed splitter box.

While I’m on the subject, here’s a pic of the first DAF 2100 I drove (C275 DGS) taken by Flickrite Derrick Petty years after I’d gone overseas.

Thanks for clearing that up.

There’s an excellent photo resource on Flickr (started by Carl Williams, a name well-known to this forum) on removal wagons old and new. Well worth an hour (or a day  ) browsing though:

This is my dads truck from West Wales Carmarthenshire

Seen it about and at Carmarthen before. It’s always impressive. A credit to your Dad.

Thanks, It would be a lot more complete but for me being locked out of Flickr
My orriginal Email address was with Yahoo which I had about 10 years. When they announced they had been hacked I was told I had to change my password which I did and at the same time updated my mobile no which was long gone. Somehow that did not update correctly, and neither my old password or new password didn’t work You cannot ring Yahoo and it appears to me they employ morons. I emailed them & told them what had happened, and they sent me a new password to the Email address I cannot open. Tried about 5 times telling them not to Email this address as it was the one I could not open but apparently they could not understand. So I gave up, but sadly they own Flickr. It was working until they changed that password to a one I don’t know.

You cannot contact Flickr & only access is through Yahoo. Been trying for months now without success, I also have a W.H.Williams group with 130 odd of our vehicles photos which also is unaccessible

f anyone has ever got any common sense from Yahoo or Flickr please let me know what I can do

Carl
