Blagging A Job on experiance

I feel for the new licence holders , with the experience thing…

and would say you have to have some poetic licence to get a job nowadays…

First job I did on skips an eight leggers an grabs I got through being a mech an driving the odd wagon…
Obviously didnt say how few times I drove them…but was sure I could prove myself and worked for 2 weeks for free
just to get a job…

This was a long while back (25 years or so)

Has anyone else got in to driving with the odd white lie.

I applied for a docking job 21 yrs ago but in those days you had to have a relative who worked there to be considered for the job, well luckily we had a family friend who volunteered to be my “uncle”, anyway got the job and then this bloke had the nickname “uncle” till he retired.

The only way to beat the “2 years experience” thing and get in is by lying, then hoping that you do not get caught out. In fact it’s not just with trucking, it’s with most things in life. Especially job interviews. Like it or not, the best liars are the ones who win.
I wish I was good at telling lies, maybe I wouldn’t be stuck in the pish hole that I am.

It was no different when I went for my 1st job in 1990. No experience and I was over egging the few times I’d driven 7.5t vehicles and over selling my very limited experience. During the interview this guy’s phone rings. He then asks if I can do a job now. Some other driver had let him down and he needed a load of beer from Leeds to 3 drops in Manchester.
Off I goes and takes someone from their office and the rest is history. I just got lucky because my experience would have been uncovered as I could only flannel for so long.
