Bit cheeky I know but

Please sign our petition

I put it in Bullys earlier then realised it would get more coverage in here

you might get more a response if you give some story/detail about it and what the petition is for rather then expecting people to click on a random link

NATIONAL PICTURE THEATRE

The National Picture Theatre in Kingston upon Hull is a Grade ll Listed Building. It was given listed status because it is a very rare survival of a WW2 blitzed ruin, being the only civilian example in the whole country.

The National Civilian WW2 Memorial Trust would like to purchase the National Picture Theatre site and develop it into a WW2 ‘Home Front Tribute’ . The Trust have already been granted planning permission and Listed Building Consent.

However, the current owner has submitted a planning application to develop the rear two-thirds of the site to produce a large car park, and an outdoor eating and drinking area for the Swan Inn, which he wants to convert into a restaurant. He also wants to build a 2-metre high fence directly behind the bombed ruins. This development would ruin the special historic character and poignancy of the site, and with only one-third of the site remaining, it would make it financially unviable as an educational facility and visitor attraction.

No, it’s on Beverley Road

Sorry but think a car park and eating area would be the best option for 2/3rds of the site and use the remaining 1/3 as well a bigger car park or even an area to have an open air market day on.
Only the front facade remains and the rest is just ruin and a health hazard.

Perhaps the facade could be rebuilt as part of the pub/car park entrance with a memorial plaque somewhere.

Converting it into some sort of home front tribute is just remaining stuck in the past and doesn’t really benefit the local community. A memorial could be included to serve that purpose.

Nothing wrong with remembering the past as history provides us with a memory of our mistakes to help prevent future ones as well as others sacrifice but time to move on and maybe come to some sort of mutual agreement for this site allowing it to be developed to provide a use for the community but retaining a link to the past.

Just my 2p or half-groats worth

One more from me.

I find it difficult to see what would be gained by preserving it.
It’s not big enough to turn into a museum or visitor attraction etc so what purpose would it serve?

we now have 1038 signatures, if you haven’t signed, PLEASE do so.

Many thanks

before I can sign I need to know what are the alternative plans to pulling it down.
I don’t want to sign to simply keep a dilapidated building in the same condition, is there any funding in place to do anything with it or is it just a matter of keep it because someone wants to?
