I’m thinking of relocating to Birmingham or Manchester as I’ve had enough of living in Purfleet.
What are the best areas of either Birmingham or Manchester for a lorry driver to live?
Are there many jobs available?
I’ve been thinking of areas around Sutton Coldfield as it is close to Kingsbury refinery (I have ADR). Are any other areas worth considering in that part of the country?
What about Manchester what areas are best to live for a lorry driver?
the further away from Birmingham city centre the better, absolute pit.
I’m thinking of moving to sutton coldfield eventually but any of the surrounding areas are decent too i.e Bournville (no beer here though), mosely, solihull
lots of DHL work into JLR, Bibby and RGF run in there too.
no idea about anywhere else as I’ve not drove for a living for 2 years now
I live about 15 minutes from trafford park , I’m not currently driving for a living but I do hold my class 2&1 and Pcv license , so believe me when I say that trafford park is the place to be , more so very soon as a new culina depot is being opened followed by a major container depot next to the Manchester ship canal , to the point I’m going to return to the driving game shortly , so I would look to live any place within say five to ten miles from trafford park Manchester , hope this helps
Yes. I’ve heard Birmingham is not a pleasant place to live, and from doing doing some research I’ve realised the most work for lorry drivers are around the north - east part of Birmingham, places such as Kingsbury (ADR), and others , maybe
I know Bournville is a nice place to live, in fact I’ve delivered there a few times to Cadbury’s, but there aren’t any jobs for lorry drivers in the area as far as I know.
Solihull and Shirley are also nice, but again no jobs for lorry drivers in the area, unless I’m mistaken.
Manchester
Yes, I’ve heard about Trafford Park and that there are jobs for drivers, but not sure if there are many jobs or just a few and far in between
If you’re looking to buy,Sutton Coldfield could be expensive.Lichfield is also nice, but again, not cheap.Tamworth would be a good shout, close to Hams Hall, and not too far from Fradley (near Lichfield),where I would imagine there would be plenty of openings.
Birmingham. Come north of Wolverhampton and you’re in the countryside with very easy commutes to a lot of haulage companies (Tesco/Palletways/Great Bear in Lichfield, lots of steel and plant hauliers in Wolverhampton K Transport, GK, RK, Parkfields, Cannock as well, few small companies, recommend EDS Couriers, sub to Palletforce and APC (I think), down towards Birmingham is even more. Up to J16 M6 is Sainsbury’s in Crewe. Some more in Stafford I’m sure, but I’ve never worked up there) Also DPD in West Bromwich, down M6 onto M5 then a couple of roads to depot. Also DX, Blakemores and Aspray24 in Willenhall, commutable from anywhere.
I would prefer to stick to places around Birmingham, wouldn’t want to go as far as Crewe or Lichfield, just want to be close to a large city within a commutable distance, I wouldn’t want to go further than 10 miles away from M6 if I was to move to Birmingham
Do you have family and friends in both these areas? ■■■■ living in either of them if I had to choose I’d go Manchester. Rather top maself than live in Birmingham.

No, I don’t have any family in neither of them.
Always though the further noth you go the lower pay need to be expected, so wasn’t so keen on Manchester, but could be wrong.
Spoke the other day to a driver based in south Leeds and he said there were a lot of jobs in that part of the country and quite well paying ones, so maybe I should consider south of Leeds, I’m quite open minded, just would like to live close to a large city.
Was also thinking of Rugby or Avonmouth.

Thanks Daytrunker for that lost.
So, Willenhall looks like the place to be
If you do choose Willenhall (definitely not my personal first choice area though), make sure you don’t refer to it as being part of Birmingham (though there is no dividing line ), locals say they live in the ‘Black Country’ (something to be proud of, I gather ).
Have you considered the east side? - gives you more access to the ‘golden triangle’ for work.
Willenhall, ■■■■ that be more pleasant living in Syria. Loads of decent jobs in Trafford Park and decent houses in Sale/Urmston/Stretford, all 10 minutes drive.
