I have got to take my brother to the NEC
Crufts 2008 On saturday 8th of march.
The fastest route apparently is -
M1 to junction 23A
A42
M42 to junction 9
A446 (Lichfield Rd)
A446 (stonebridge Rd)
B4438 (Bickenhill Parkway)
All people travelling from the north park in the area
marked on the map - Map
This route is supposed to be the fastest
1 hour 22 mins and 81.2 miles. Do you
know a better route going by car also is
there any road works or anything to consider
on the route I posted. I have to be there for
08:15 so thinking about leaving my home
about 06:00.

Now I know some Brothers can be nasty to their siblings but really…entering him into a dog show is going too far!

When I went to the Autosport show a couple of months ago,we came off at the A45 Coventry turn off, (J6) and drove straight into the car park,as the NEC is well signposted.
You have the correct route there but at those times you will experience very heavy traffic on the M42 and in and out of the NEC as for any major show.
To save some money parking go to Birmingham International Rail station to park its cheaper and you have undercover walk all the way into NEC.
Also, as some hopefully useful advice…
The airport parking is also cheaper, and quicker to get into the NEC itself instead of the 40 min queues for the bus in the car park!

I was looking at Junction 6 and there is
roadworks there untill end of march delay
less than 10 mins apparently.
Whats the speed limit on the A446 as I am
thinking that most people will go to junction 6
so the A446 might be a better choice also they
are advising people coming from the south to use
junction 6.
Thanks Smee The NEC Listed car parks charge £8 for cars.
Thanks Alex for the airport suggestion

but if your going to birmingham CHEP for pallets its not a good idea to go that way in a truck on show days, as I found out

as quinny says come off at junction 6 and theres signs for it on the slip road (just go left and keep going left over the m42) ignore the advised parking and try as get as close as possible (thats what i did for a gig there )
At the first sign of delays on the M42, come off at the junction of the A446 and head towards Coleshill. The road winds a bit to start with but after traffic lights opens up onto a dual carriageway. Down the dip to the roundabout and straight ahead. Turn right at the next roundabout and that will take you to the North car parks.
Alternatively, for the Station, again assuming traffic is congested, loop round tp M6/5, a bit of a jaunt, off at the junction and tight left. That will take you onto the Chelmesley Collector Road.Follow that to the third roundabout and then turn right. It’s a long way round but better than sitting in traffic. Or right at the fourth roundabout for the North car parks.
If you look at a map, you’ll see where I mean. The snarl up always happens where the M6 Toll (3 lanes) joins the M42 (2 lanes) and then everyone wants the same two lanes for the NEC, which is why they are now trying to make it into 3 lanes.
Coming from the North I would take the route in the first post. Off the M42 at J9 and onto the A446. Take Bickenhill Parkway and head straight for the Railway Station. (parking there is £6). They may have signs up saying that parking is only for rail passengers and non rail passengers pay £25, but you just pay at a machine in the station en route to the dog show (or on the way back)
There is far more chance of getting trapped in show traffic coming from M42 J6 especially as they are replacing the lights on the roudabout at the moment.
I have spent about five years working out of Starley Way just off Bickenhill Parkway and several times got caught in the NEC traffic chaos
