Hi Dan,
I remember Dobson’s yard off the Expressway, right on the corner and you had to drop the trailer on weighbridge.
Dunn brothers yard is now owned by Simm’s and EMR 's bale yard at Smethwick is now mothballed.
What truck did your Dad run Dan before the EC, was it D47?
Who has got the Wulfruna Comet, Mr Fearn? Cheer’s Pete

D47 pete ,and Geoff Thomas has the comet under restoration .

Punchy Dan:

Pete there was Broadhirsts too wherever they were I don’t know ? At smethwick coopers top yard that is they were big on Erfs I remember the 8 wheeler c series’s that carried 2 skips ,once my dad went down with a tandem semi low behind the marathan to move 2 o&k 360 scrap handlers not sure how heavy but 2 on a tandem would be well over weight ,turned out months later they took them unofficially to settle a debt !

Hi Dan,Broadhurts were on Kelvin Way West Bromwich, the balers from there were sited at Darlaston, remember talking to one of the old Coopers drivers he said they used to have to take everything down to Swindon for servicing! If you go on to that NA3 photo site there are loads of pics of Coopers trucks

One for Trev H, borrowed off Bubbleman’s thread, can remember Scottie driving this, used to pop home for his breakfast!

I don’t remember that unit at all Pete but Goodyear always bought secondhand motors to run themselves, all the new motors were BRS contract vehicles, never understood why all there own motors were used and all different makes.

Hiya
Trev it would keep their own fitters on their toes and at least there would be a bit
of variety in the working day the only downside for me would not being able to
standardise on spares and therefore there would be a stream of bits and pieces
being constantly delivered and that missing link not being in the stores at a time
when it was urgently required and all the factors had gone home.
thanks harry, long retired.

One for you Steel Boys, Stourbridge Rolling Mills from 1938 a Thorneycroft?

Hi Saviem,
Sorry for the late reply i have been away from the rat race for a week to Devon,I do not know what happened to the D series as the lad who drove her has now passed away, George Tolley i think and his brother drove the Guy 8 legger ( they both worked previously for George and Matthews )the Guy has been scrapped i think and that yellow Terrier is still in the Yard.
Yes Horseley Fields is a bit down in the mouth at the minute, but what could you do with Brown Brothers Building, flats maybe? There is no industry left in the area as R.Paskins, based in Billy Wises old garage (before he moved to Lower Horseley Fields), have shut down, Frank Glovers old building seems keep off the Demolition boys radar as well, Cheers Pete

IIRC the D series is still in the yard - David? Walker said that it was a terrible thing (engine) but that the driver wouldnt let him get rid!

The Guy went to a mate - it drove up onto a low loader and later appeared in Heartbeat - the cab was well shot!
It got scrapped later as it was really too far gone and storage became an issue.
The yellowLeyland is still there I think though

From a couple of years back…

Hiya fryske I think the Foden tipper is under restoration at JC balls Ambergate .and the guy is very briefly on a video in derby in 1989 .
