Morning Peter. No I think that it had just been painted by Spittle’s, so i presume it was taken close to their old yard.
A few more of my fathers.

A couple more

Evening all, ,

Hereford 1971, Thank you for posting those pictures of your Dads, Tonys fleet @ CB Smiths. Lovely fellow your Dad, always a Gentleman.........(even if he liked Guys)…I think that he may have bought his Seddon Atkinsons from “Square Deal Neil” when Neil Jones was at Rylands. I keep forgetting just how long ago those days really are!

I presume that the Scammell was pictured at Codsall?..by the way who was bringing Hay into you behind an old Fordson?..should at least have put one mirror on the tractor to see behind!..

Thanks again, many fond memories of your dad.

Cheerio for now.

Hi Saviem

Yes the Scammell was at Codsall, taken in the mid eighties.
Not sure where the 400’s came from but I think I have an invoice somewhere,I will look it up.We still have a couple of them unused parked in a barn.
No idea who was carting the hay buy will find out.
Poor pic but one of the 400’s with I think a Rolls 220.
The unused one’s have a Big cam 290 ■■■■■■■ and the other a 240 Gardner both with Eaton boxes!

Evocative pictures Hereford 1971. I wanted a Big J in 1969, preferably with a Gardner, but you simply couldn’t buy them without a load of cash and a backhander then as a newcomer. I had to settle for BMC/Leyland Mastiffs.

What’s fascinating me in the pics is that the Mastiffs are actually the same height as the big Js, which I always thought of as bigger! Much more comfortable cab in the Mastiff - shame about the engine!

Hi John
If I remember correctly the Mastiffs had a higher step up into the cab compared to the Guy’s,least for a small kid.
Will try to find some more pictures.

Morning Nigel,
There was Male and son as Pete (Windrush) mentioned, but their yard was at Pensnett, Coopers is the only one I can think of that was near to Pear Tree Lane, they ran Leylands and are still about with a couple of Volvo’s,also Brian Hill ran Leyland constructor’s,some more will spring to mind throughout the day no doubt!
