why did they only fit twin headlights to the tippers and not the regular units ?

Hi the Eurohaul 86 was PTR 45 M brought new as a shunter but did end up going abroad.
Im sure you senior members will put me right but i think the Phillips of Poole 86’s had a bunk i them from new if it was a genuine olvo or not I dont know but the dealer did sell pattern top bunks for F88/9s so the may well have out sorced these as well.

so…next question is why did they only fit them to double drive equipment ? and i’m surprised some didn’t convert the units to twin headlights to be a bit different .

There is one of Evans’ 8x4 Bubbles (ATA629T) in the Devon Compaies thread on page 2, viewtopic.php?f=35&t=45722

Also in there are ones from Eggbeers, Luxton & Coombes, Radfords (Cullompton), John Dorse & Axminster Transport. Heavy Transport (ECC) had quite a few of them as well.

Keep them coming, Andrew.

Hi,here are a couple of Evans pics,Andy…sadly not your dads though.Dave Lee kindly let me use them to put on here…

The white Stralis giving you the lights this week was me :unamused:

Cheers Bubbs.

hiya,
Remember J R Young of Leadgate extended an F86 tractor unit by using the back half of a double drive Leyland Octopus and the end product was a six wheeled rigid, being a regular night driver i took whatever was loaded for me on this occasion this motor, it was an awful night driving snow but the motor never missed a beat many times getting by stuff that was struggling in the bad conditions got to Ravenscraig not much later than normal, backed on to the tipping point started to raise the body got about half way up and bang the thing had broken in half at the joins finished up having to shovel the load off but British Steel did lend me a couple of labourers to help out, just pleased the weather had improved the fitters just chained her together and took the prop off and dragged me home on a rigid bar fortunately i could run the engine to keep a bit of coal on the fire although the weather had improved it had stopped snowing it was still very cold, that journey was the longest run i’ve ever done.
thanks harry long retired.

Had my time in one, what I liked about it was no one else wanted to drive it.

Here is my Grandads f86 from new

Hello, heres some pics of my old girl…the wagon not the wife

This was prior to its 1st m.o.t ,just checking that everything worked on the trailer…brakes, lights etc.First time it had a trailer on its back in years.

Picking up the borrowed trailer en route to the start of the great north run in Yorkshire.

Resting at the top of Shap…she screemed her guts out climbing it :open_mouth:

Gaydon,a few years ago.

The last time I drove her…nearly 2 years ago, been locked in a garage ever since. :frowning: …hopefully I’ll get time to get her ready for next years rally season

Cheers Bubbs,

Hi bubbs, Great to see it in the flesh, so to speak, as picked snippets up from previous conversations. Hope you don’t mind but I have P.M.'d you with a couple of questions.

Lubbly Bubbly Fellas,
Some great pics on here the last few days, love the Evans’s 8x4 Bubbs mate,I don’t remember seeing them around. The Inter-City Trucks 86 is a ripper too,I have a pic of one of their 88’s.
Most of you will have seen my 86 pics on the Devon thread,so I thought I’d put up a few from Down Under.
These were taken in around Perth,Western Australia and are all still working. Not many Bubbles made it to NZ,I’ve never seen one here and have very few photos in books of Kiwi 86’s.

Tidy little four wheeler carting general.

I got a tip off from a bloke about this one and managed to find it in a shed south of Perth, couldn’t realy get a good shot as it was dark and jammed in amoung other trucks. It’s a 6x2 and can be seen carting wool bales to the wharfs of Freemantle in the busy season.

And finaly something a bit different,a 6x4 tractor, yep not many of these in the UK. It’s fitted with a Rockwell arse end with Hendrickson suspension, this was a common set up for Volvos assembled in Australia, the G88’s and G89’s both had had this boggie drive fitted.

Looks good I reckon.

Some great pictures of a classi volvo, so thought i’d give my 2 pen’th.
This is from a batch of pictures my good friend " Chris Oldham " lent me. 1 of Rygor and sons F86s.

Here ya go Bubbleman, two photos from John Harrison in colour  . Now please show us your great photos that I know that you have got of the same vehicle in black and white  .

Regards Steve.

Hiya… this bubble was at the Ayr road run 3 weeks ago

John

Hi ya Bubbleman ! thanks for the Evans BUBBLE ! Sadly not Dads bubble but equally as good . that bubble was turned in to a timber crane lorry around 1986 which was replaced by a fl10 day cab 8 wheeler . its later life returned to a tipper until end of service in 1993. did recognise you in the stralis took a few mins to register . dave lee speaks to daren regularly will ask him about dads photo . keep up the good work many thanks ANDREW !

I remember going with my dad as a kid in an 86, belonging to Caledonian Bulk Liquids, happy days, dont have any pictures of any of their vehicles though, but somebody mentioned extended cabs and I do have a couple of pictures of an 86 with a sleeper cab, I belive (if wrong please correct) its a nightrider conversion fitted in Andover and was originaly owned by Ciba Geigy along with 3 others at their Duxford site.
