All being well I’ll be starting a temporary job driving council recycling vehicles, bin wagons or whatever they’re called, now I know most of them will be Tachograph exempt so I was wondering just how I keep a record of my driving time.I suppose that I have to comply with the WTD so is that basically taking half an hours break six hours into a shift ? Do bin wagons have exemptions for Bus Lanes,7.5 ton limits and similar ? I don’t want to rely too much on the loaders for advice, they may well resent agency drivers or simply not know.I know that I’ll have to keep them on side but I wont have much faith in them when they tell me “The normal driver does this, the normal driver does that”.I am not too concerned about operating the wagon because I’ll be shown that (I hope).Oh well,it all counts as experience.

If the job is door-to-door household refuse collection then yes it is exempt from EU regulations, which in turn will make it exempt from the RT(WTD), so you won’t need to worry about the 6 hour rule.
You can record the working time, driving time ec’t either in a log book or if the vehicle is fitted with a tachograph you can use that.
Just for the record the 6 hour rule which you won’t need to worry about requires a 15 minute break (not 30 minutes) at or before working 6 consecutive hours, but like I said you won’t need to worry about it

“No” and “No”, not unless there’s a sign saying so which won’t be very likely
Hope the job goes well , good luck
