I’ve just driven passed the steel works at Port Talbot on the elevated section of the M4 and was thinking what a huge place to work and that you might not see someone from one year to the next who also might work there, so it got me thinking what do you lot think might be the biggest place to work is either UK or Europe.
BASF Ludwigshafen Ca 10 sq kms ?

Consider yourself lucky you don’t have to go in there and load, what an idle shower 6-2 shift went thus, wander out at 6.30 at the earliest load a couple of trucks stop at 8.00 for a 30 minute break (at least) get going again around 8.45 stop at 10 for an hour break get going again by 11.15 then wander off at 1.00 for a shower.
Lucky if they did more than 4 hours a shift, the sister plant at Llanwern near Newport was the same, even worse on the night shift one department slept the entire shift for 13 years.
I had 12 years in Llanwern big yes, plenty of places to hide.

Don’t get me started on the dockers, they had a worse attitude than the steelworkers, and that takes some doing.

I’ve been lost in there too. The map they give you at the gate is useless
Fort Bragg is pretty big, teaching yanks how to run is fun!
and shoot!
Years ago Ford’s at Dagenham was a massive site. That was when they had their own foundry, power station, upholstery, engine & assembly plants. Trying to find some of their tea bars & canteens was a day’s job in itself. I used to hate it when I had to cover the regular driver on that run.

I,ll go along with that the place is massive.
regards dave.
The TM at one firm I worked for regularly ranted at me for not loading two trailers five nights a week at Llanwern. After a couple of months I persuaded him to come with me for a ride. After he saw what it was like he stopped loading on nights altogether & put another driver on to load two trailers on day shift.
That works next to Newport is nearly as wide as the city itself …
I used to go into the steelworks at Margam Port Talbot in the late 1960’s,it was as others have said much bigger than these days.I think Ravenscraig steelworks was bigger.
