biggest fleet

who OWNS the biggest fleet in the uk
exel , wincanton etc i presume lease most of them, and some must belong to their customers wether leased or owned outright.
in my companies case for example, we have around about 160 trucks nationwide and i suppose about 20 are leased. these are automatic actross,es. they were bought originally, but due to bad problems with the gearboxes they were sold back to mercedes and then leased back.they go next month
but surely some company must own a very large fleet ,somewhere??

i would say STILLERS from my area are pretty big…
i stand to be corrected of course

the amount of yellow trucks make me wonder if DHL are up amongst them, although EXEL, Hays, TDG and Wincanton probably operate more trucks because there are many customer liveried trucks run by these multinationals.

I think we are the second biggest in France with the Transalliance banner. Nobrot has a lot of trucks that run in customers livery

Royal mail have the biggest fleet in the UK, not sure if that really counts though!!!

i would not have thought that dhl or the post office would own there trucks, but i may be wrong.

I dont know who the biggest fleet is I only know it’s not mine

but at least you own it

I would suggest that actually owning a large fleet of trucks is false economy nowadays. Most business men would put their money into property like warehousing and land then lease or HP the machinery with R & M packages

Royal mail always used to own their vehicles, They have enough buying power that they get very good deals when they buy. They even used to buy their company cars rather then lease them. It may of all changed now though.

Hi there, I think the company I work for, Turners (soham), Is the largest family owned company.

that sounds like a sensible answer to this question Shaggy. I doubt there are any larger family firms

Thats not too hard though NSH considering you drive the only lorry in your multinational corporation,    How is that new Volvo of yours?

Hanbury Davies has a fairly large fleet including Geest and some of Culina’s
over 600 I think
As far as I know they are owned,as they are sold through Hanbury 's dealership after 3 years

Willi Betz do have over 9,800 fleets in Europe - Actros, Premium, Magnum and few odd truck - Volvo, Iveco…

British family company maybe - Stobart, Irlam, H.E.Payne, Downton and Turner ?

Ben.

the original question was who OWNS the biggest fleet in the uk , as opposed to leasing.

i know willi betz buys his trucks, but its not a uk firm

How many trucks? I know of a Family Owned Company who own quite a lot.

They say Malcolms of Brookfield in Scotland own around 500 trucks (not leased - cash on the nail)

Prestons of Potto are still family owned, and could be as big as Turners if not bigger.
