Biggest convoy?

excluding military vehicles and truck show prosessions what it the biggest convoy of trucks you have seen belonging to the one company on the road.
i cant recall ever seeing more than five in one go.
they were all denby motors travelling south enroute to the ferry.
surely it must be more than five.

You obviously never went Norfolk Line Dover-Dunkirk on a Friday when the Muppets (Murfitts) where desperate to get out of UK before the weekend ( better overnight money abroad),

Have seen 20+ Murfitts in a line coming out of Dunkirk before

7 or 8 years ago i was overtaken one sunday afternon on the m25 by 15 mcardle irish scania`s. all full bore chasing for the boat! …(and i was on the limiter  )

It’s still like that on a Sunday JB, 8, 9,10 or more trucks in a line all from the same company, any of the large Irish fleets that is.

On the Sunday morning of the London Marathon a HUGE convoy of TNT trucks with police ■■■■■■ passed me on the Old Kent Road.Didn’t count how many there were but must have been a couple of dozen or more.I believe they were transporting runners kit to the finish line area, hopefully one of the TNT lads can tell us the numbers.

I was on the M54 last week and there was a convoy of 10 or more removal vans belonging to a Teford firm (cant remember the name but they were cream with a brown stripe) heading west. These had all been arranged into size order with the largest leading and the lowly LDV luton van bringing up the rear (very appropriate  )Not sure why they were doing this but it made a fine sight.

In last year i saw german company - Nikolaus Hammerer, - bright yellow curtainside livery with merc actros, they doing 10 truck together in M25 North (Essex) in morning monday, i think they heading back to the europe, but sometime in Sunday M25 south and M20, David Mortimer (Eat more chips) or Irish, they doing convoy together 5 trucks heading to Dover.

Sometime Willi Betz doing convoy in weekend, when they stay Calais for overnight then next day they get to ferry or tunnel to UK, 2 - 5 Betz trucks

Ben,

I know you said excluding military vehicles but on the A1 last Friday coming back from Newcastle there must have been 60 ish Mercedes trucks but not British forces. I started to think we had been invaded :open_mouth:

In the mid 80’s when i drove for Swifts there were 10 of us running down the M1 in line one friday :exclamation:

Biggest convoy i ever saw was 20…going north at the side of the M1…i think intercity was written on the side…

Tartainraider,

Those TNT trucks were probably just out of Greenwich Park having loaded up with just what you suggested, the London Marathon runners kit.

The last year that I was with TNT I had the pleasure of being one of the said drivers and having a Police ■■■■■■ from Greenwich Park to the Mall was an experience in its self.

In total (at the Mall) there would have been about 30 trucks, double parked down the centre of the road facing towards Admiralty Arch/Trafalger Square. The vehicles would have come from a number of depots around the area, in particular Braintree, Maidstone and the one near Heathrow (forget its name!!)
We, at Braintree, always supplied the best turned out vehicles and the largest number normally about 12.

It was however a very long day, starting about 04.00am and finishing sometime after 19.30pm. So, the longest convoy we had then was about 12 trucks…

That’s not what Iver said ! Did you work out of Wapping by any chance Big Piggy?

Can you remember the B&Q advert years ago with the massive convoy… hhhhmmmmmmmmm thinks jammy could get on this one and get us a number for the convoy!!! hehe

I remember my uncle once telling me that he ran in a convoy of 18 trucks al taking piping somewhere but it escapes me now. He worked for C.F.Dickinson who ran out of Billinghay in Lincolnshire but have now gone bust.

Tartanraider,

No, Wapping was the sole preserve of the Newsfast Night Riders…

I was a Day Jockey doing ‘Jiffy’ or ‘Starch’ or ‘Paper’ out of Tilbury, you know, general [zb]for [zb] money!!

Keep them wheels turning…

Iver? Who were they? (he! he!)

Terry

take a gander at www.croome.com - you can’t see all of the photo but there were about 22 in a line, only for the photoshoot at the tunnel of course though!
