given the choice of a DAF CF Skycab or an XF space cab, i would take the CF Skycab every time, for the simple reason, there is more headroom in the Skycab than an XF Space cab
agreed i would love a cf spacecab for the 4 nights out i do it would be perfect.
Can’t agree an XF is much easier to live in for a week than a CF , outside storeage on a CF is crap aswell so you end up with your passenger footwell full of straps n such like
Volvo’s FL10 has alot to answer for- before that came out the ‘engine hump’ in cabs was getting lower . You can’t beat a flat floor if your living in the cab for a few days , drove for John Lewis’s on agency recently & had an Actros day cab- still loads better than a axor

I remember an old post that Lucy posted and said flat floors were dangerous, I have remembered that ever since. A flat floor allows a can of polish or a coke can to get under your pedals if it gets loose on the floor, it is also easier to keep the centre bit clean like your front room, take your boots off in the footwell before sitting on the bed in your overalls…

I drove a skycab for Demeulemeester for a couple of trips, and I was actually considering buying one as an owner driver again. I even went to look at a couple in Coalville. I saw the doctor and he gave me some more pills, but as a good using truck I would never knock one back.

Isn’t that why they choose conventionals over cabovers in the states? We had all better spec cramped lowline cabs in case of a runaway coke can

The skys the limit, the floor just needs a little step to keep the crap in the passenger well
If you can give me one GOOD reason why a driver NEEDS (as opposed to wants) the biggest cab a manufacturer offers I will gladly agree with you, but the simple fact is that the Volvo FM, Daf CF, Axor etc are perfectly good motors and do the job just as well as any other!
A MegaTrotterGlobeSpaceXXL is always nice to have, but never NEEDED! If the driver don’t like it, he can always move on!
Agree. Who would buy a superspace for the odd night away? Not cost effective and reduces payload…

And I thought I was a right moaner complaining because we didn’t have n/s electric mirror adjustment on our CF day cabs.
Our FL7 day cabs haven’t got electric windows or any kind of remote mirror adjustment. An annoyance as this week I seem to keep being given trucks that have been driven by the short bloke who lies down to drive, you all know the type, and end up spending ten minutes just adjusting the seat and keep getting out to do the mirrors.
Didn’t realise FL7s had enough room to recline the seats-FEs don’t but they’re still nice to drive.
BIG/TALL CABS WHY■■? how long do you plan on standing up in your tall cabs when on a night out or do you sleep stood up?? i always lay down to sleep so what is it with big cabs amoung drivers he has one i want one would sooner have a longer cab, even spanky mandys cab as hideous as it may look is a better way for space better bed and better floor space, christ knows why you need a super doooder high cab to be a big trucker is the main reason
When buying a new unit most firms are more likely to look at cost and suitability for the job intended first, why buy a super duper spec truck if your just gonna do day work? Im sure it’s more cost effective to buy large numbers of fleet spec vehicles than a few top spec motors at the same price.
Perhaps some drivers have been spoilt in the good times, I started tramping in a 4 series P cab before moving up to the R series i have now, it’s a standard sleeper and it’s got plenty of room for me, being 6ft 4 I’d like the taller cab but I can live with it as long as the moneys good.
Funnily enough I know an OD who traded in his P Cab for an all singing all dancing Topline spec drawbar. The extra space is nice but the extra weight on the front means less payload, plus the higher cab catches overhead branches and scaffolding on tight sites causing plenty of damage, believe he’s selling up now as it’s been more trouble than it’s worth.

When the new FH was introduced in 2002 we at Gwynedd shipping got flat roofed FH12 420’s for tramping in…
Shortly after they got some I-shift 420 FM Globys and the lads in FH’s laughed at them for having “LITTLE FM’S”… In truth the FM’s were a better trampers truck, more lockers and better space!
Even now i just swapped a HUGE MAN XXL on a 60 plate for a 60 plate FH Globetrotter (Non XL) because the FH is a better truck. Yes the XXL is bigger, but it’s useless space!
On the DAF argument, i’d take a CF space cab over an XF space cab any day!!!

Well if these top notch trucks are so good, high cabs all bells and whistles, someone tell me why every time i went away with my dad in the scania topline talkin an 08 R series not your like fully kitted out just a basic topliner explain to me why it was more cramped in the topliner then it was when i went away with my dad when he was on tippers back in 03-06 how come it was alot more spacious in a 04 Foden space cab. And have done nights out in them both Foden didn’t have 2 bunks only had one. But get my point, In my opinion i’d take the foden/daf cf spacecab over most trucks to be honest. But thats my opinion. Not to mention i think the CF looks better then an XF daf. To me the XF looks nothing more then a big box on wheels correct me if im wrong

i think youve got it spot on there globby,a while back i was on for stobbies this was be for they had all the big cab moters but for some reason me and one other bloke was luckey enough to be given an fh12 globtrotter now we was mon to fri trampers so are moters were parked up at weekends, but strangley enuf it was always mine and my mates globtotters that ended up going out at weekends with the agency bods despite the yard being full of normall fhs im sure its so they could tallk diesal at rdcs n truckstops about how big there lorry is n how there out for weeks on end,yes a big cab is nice but is it a must at the end of the day if its got a sterring wheel your getting paid to drive it the wheels go round without failling off, its legal, whats size got to do with it i always thought it was the motion off the ocean
