Accidents happen GasGas, we’re always complaining about H+S ■■■■■■■■, sorry for this guys loss, but sometimes you’ve got to take responsibility for yourself.

We’ve all done daft things and asked “why the hell did I do that…”

Read the comments at the bottom of the article mate…it appears Biffa were very keen on Health & Safety, to the detriment of ensuring real safety.

I’m sure we’ve all been to places where H&S is an exercise in management arse-covering.

I had to visit a bus depot where they were concerned about me walking across the driveway where the buses were coming in and out…to reach my motorcycle, which I was going to ride home on the North Circ through the rush hour!

I pointed out that if I could ride a motorbike in London, I was probably competent enough to cross the road on my own.

I know what you’re saying, my mate does walking floor and chip liner type work, went out with him once, he wasn’t aloud to go up on the cherry picker to close his roof, not aloud to do it at all on site, so had to go offsite to do it, now, if something happens, there’s nobody around to witness it or (get) help, whereas inside, there’s witness, first aiders, and a cherry picker…

Crazy old world

I worked for them for 5 years , not good, search “biffa for sale” they are on the verge of going under.owned by venture capitalists and being run into the ground.single man operation, heavy metal bins, on the plus side you can earn over 30k a year an be home by 3 every day

Classic,

We don’t care if you have an accident, just don’t have it here!

A bit like the Italian race tacks where the doctor won’t pronounce anyone dead: they take the corpse to hospital and say 'the driver died on his way to hospital, therefore his death is not the responsibility of the circuit owner!"

Place I was at used to have a load of waste card bales. Usually was going to SCA and Walkers or someone with a walking floor/curtainsider trailer with a Moffet with a clamp would turn up and load them.

Then Biffa visited and offered more per ton. Rang them to collect and a guy just turned up in a flatbed 26t.

I wasn’t very happy but he just said load them with the regular forklift and he’d help shove them around stood on the bed. Took ages to load and took him two trips. I didn’t think they ought to really have sales guys out tendering for stuff they haven’t really got the right kit to safely collect.
