Bibbys

Got a mate who’s looking to move, and asked me about Bibby’s, i couldn’t help him, so thought i’d ask on here. What they like, wages etc?

Thankyou

I’d presume it depends on what contract he goes on?

RRr, now there’s a question, no idea, but he was looking at Corby Depot

Don’t know anything about money or conditions, the only thing I do know is around this way they are racing around like ■■■■■■■ lunatics, so that tells me to stay away from there.

We did some Subbie work for them, and think it wasn’t too bad, nothing heavy as most work was Ryvita but clean enough, nice enough people out of Melksham and Biggleswade

They have nice motors capable of doing 56
Did some work for them years ago on milk & drinks to Rdc’s, cardboard etc very clean work & you’re left to get on with the job. It was hard to get on the books full time so that must tell you something…

Thankyou for your replies. all info appreciated

I run into Bibbys at Leeds/Bradford Airport every night. I have asked about application forms direct, emailed them and phoned up but they have No vacancies. The drivers already there seem content.

they have been advertising in the last month at leeds £25000 a year it said class 2

Right I was in Bibbys this morning (Leeds/Bradford airport) and spoke to an experienced guy in the office. He and 2 others around him said “you don’t want a job here it is [not good]” I said they told me “there are no vacancies” and they laughed and said they soon will be as they are always turning over drivers. His advice to get on with Bibbys is to join Drivers Direct agency and when they see you have not hit any bridges they take you on.

Edit: Checked this out this afternoon and he was wrong on that score. I found adverts with monster and Reed for Bibbys

I was a driver for Bibby for about 2 years on a contract.

As a company to work for they are very professional, your kit will always be maintained no questions asked, if a driver says that a tyre needs changing or something needs looking at etc then it will be done instantly with no awkward forms to fill in or having to spend half an hour justifying your judgement.

They do, in return, expect you to be very professional as well. All your paperwork must be completed in full and without errors and everything, be it a scrap of paper or a load of car parts, has to be accounted for at all times.

They also don’t take any messing around. In the time I was there at least 3 drivers I know of had disciplinaries or were fired for not following the company line.

The money is very good I’d say, probably about £5k a year higher than most other jobs in the area. The Class II drivers were on £23,000 per year and Class I £26,000 when I left last May.
I can’t remember what holiday allowance was like but I don’t remember it being much different to anywhere else.

What I would say about them is that it’s very dependent on the contract you get, general haulage they work you quite hard and some of the places they go are a challenge at best! The big bucks contracts they have though are all very much run like clockwork, lots of buffer time built into the schedules to make sure everything is done properly and thus makes it very stress free.

If you’re the kind of person who goes into work and goes in and does everything by the book and gets it right 99% of the time then they are an absolute joy to work for and probably one of the best jobs going.
If the depot wasn’t so far from me then I’d go back in a heartbeat, it’s rare you get such a well organised job these days. But it would have to be on one of the big contracts, general haulage I think it’s just too tight to enjoy. When everything is planned down to the minute and you have to wait at a customer for an hour to tip, it can really mess your day up.

The one thing I will say though, all the drivers who were then when I started nearly 3 years ago, are still there today, and I reckon that speaks volumes.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, seems like a tight ship. They’re absolutely minted as well.
