Let’s say a class 1 driver just passed a junction on the M6 and noticed stationary traffic ahead, he decides he’s going to reverse up the hard hard shoulder, up the slip road and out onto the roundabout. He’s seen by the highways agency who then inform traffic police and he’s pulled further down the road ! What sort of punishment is he to be expecting??
Tea and biscuits with the Traffic Commissioner I’d have thought.
Anyone you know?
I said he would probably be having a chat with the traffic commissioner too, I would be surprised if he didn’t.
Yeah I know him, we work at the same company.
Are we to assume that your little friend was spotted by the cctv camera system of the motorway network ?
, and they have video footage of this manoeuvre and his questionable indiscretion and reasoning ?
, despite it being illegal and dangerous to do such a thing.
.
Lets break this down shall we:
He/she crossed a solid white line and came to rest with the vehicle (be-it temporarily), knowing that it was not an emergency or a vehicle breakdown that was occurring to them ?
That person then reversed their vehicle along a hard shoulder of a Motorway for a distance (currently unknown to us) ?
They then reverse manoeuvred onto the solid white line cross hatch markings that are fixed at points of the slip road /carriageway ?
The driver then again crossed another solid white line to exit onto the slip road lane/s to depart from the Motorway network and regulations ?
.
Very questionable about his/her reasoning and actions,
Ive no doubt that person probably came up with some relative doubtful / plausible excuse /answer when they took a back seat in the Pol car. . So when speaking with your work colleague and asking the facts, did they disclose as to whether they got a fixed penalty ticket ? or being reported pending further ? , We can assume all day long, we wern
t there and we dont know the full facts and conversations held .
Open verdict at this point
(
walks off and dons black cap shroud pending guilty verdict
At the very least 3 points and £100 fine…if he gets that he can count himself very lucky imho.
It’s no really beyond belief though. Beyond belief would be if the truck turned into some sorta Optimus prime thing and started flying over the traffic.
Whatever his punishment it’ll not be nearly enough!
once again someone else crucified on trucknet for using his initiative…ho hum…

Using your initiative is coming off before the junction or avoiding the heavily congested left turn lane at a roundabout by using the right hand lane and going completely around the roundabout. I’d even accept that a lot of us could actually reverse along the hard shoulder in a straight line, what is supremely stupid however is to end up reversing a lorry across a live roundabout which is what this spoon did. I find your defence of it very telling btw.
well it says he saw the gridlock after the junction hence he wouldn’t be turning off beforehand…he would have been reversing slowly,an no doubt could see where the arse end of his trailer was.he didn’t hit anything apparently, hence just a dude trying to get where he was wanting to get to…obviously taking a chance to a degree, but nobody here is going to know by how much…same as the flipflop entering the m6 toll from the exit slip…on cam he wasn’t a prob to anyone,in court,he got crucified.he shouldn’t have done it,but no biggy as to who he inconvenienced.
If the police deal with it as a motorway regulations offence it they could issue a fixed penalty for 3 points and a £100 fine. If they decide it is a careless or without due care offence it could go to court which could be a bigger fine and more points if found guilty.
dont think its Legal to reverse a Motorway back to exit it.
If the motorway was blocked due to an rta, he could have done exactly the same with the blessing of the police or highways agency, sadly we are followed by cameras, and there lies the evidence for a ticket of some sort…done it myself a couple of times…gladly before the camera technology, and the reporting by the csi on the internet.
