Blimey how is this ever allowed ? So if you wait 4 hours for a truck/load then do an 8 hour run you’d only get paid 8 hours ? Can’t see why anyone would put up with that.

Simple, manual entry for the time spent waiting. They would be on a very sticky wicket if they tried to discipline you for this, as it’s a legal requirement.

However if they refused to pay me for time spent waiting for a unit, I would foxtrot oscar quick sharpish.

Don’t worry, I’m sure some highly intelligent, well paid accountant has worked it all out!

Was it Salvesson tried this way back in the 90s? I seem to remember it lasted about a week before they couldn’t book an agency driver for love or money.

if your given a start time or a time to be there thats when the money starts. If it dosent then go home until they get the message .

I was under the impression, from a different thread, that manual entries were meant to cover this eventuality. I’ve heard from friends that fowler welch at Washington,Tyne & wear, have done this for years.
I don’t see a problem with it, unless they won’t pay you until you actually get in the cab, then it’s a problem.

Assuming you are an agency driver, then the agency are trying to take the pee, or you are mis-understanding the manual entry procedure.
My last encounter with the big yellow machine, mean`t you where logged onto the site/agy system upon arrival / your shift booking start time. You are paid from that point.
Then upon returning to the office at the end of your shift, you hand your paperwork in & are de-briefed, then you are logged off the system by the clerk. You may also have to sign out on a sheet in within a folder in the office. This may also mean that as soon as your logged off, your shift ends. This may also mean that you are paid to the exact minute, and not to the nearest quarter hour with no rounding up. but once you learn to play the game with the system, its easy to keep an eye on the clock.

All this is true to the letter (that’s why I won’t work for them). With me they would log me off as soon as I walked through the door to finish so all the debriefing, handing keys etc was not paid & could take anything from 5-20min, tight penny pinching ■■■■ outfit!!!

Then if they logged you off as soon as you’ve walked in the door, throw em the paperwork and walk out. I’ve had em reset the log out if I’ve been delayed debriefing. But after you’ve made your point, the penny drops

Just out of interest and newbie asking, so …don’t shout at me… Who’s big yellow… JBC … DHL… if its the later not surprised as I heard they cant get class 1 drivers for love for money

I’ve been in a yard, on a regular occasion, where there are four different contracts run by the big yellow. One is on the digi card, one on a clock card, one on 30 minutes after you get in the yard, and the fourth on a we couldn’t give a toss as long as the jobs done. :astonished:

CC - it’s the latter.

I’ve probably been there.
The latter I could’ve chucked another hour on the timesheet, and done a manual the following morning to cover myself … Then get paid it

CC… The problem was caused by agy drivers taking the pee and rounding up timesheet by >+30,so when then payroll was being done mon morning the descrepencies caused a huge headache for both them and the agy. Not to mention the cheeky drivers moaning they’ve been short changed.
And when your running 20-100 drivers per day the cost soon adds up.

Play the game, learn the rules … Then bend em

Whats all this de-brief malarkey, don’t you just hang up keys, hand over any pod’s,find out whats on tomorrow and head home.Never worked for a big firm, thank god

Its all bs, ask a million & one questions about the job, did u fuel up, why were you held up, where did you drop the trailer, have you downloaded your card, you’ve done this & that wrong…tossers

It never will drop, I’ve left the keys in the truck, jumped in my car & drove home once because my time was up, agency didn’t pay for the shift in full or for the inconvenience…

One thing I think needs to be clarified before this thread goes much further.
Is this an actual fact from DHL via memo, email or something or is it just something thats been heard in an RDC waiting room?

Yep, it all sounds bollox to me, plus if you’re agency then your contract is with them not DHL, if they start messing about with hours/wages then you just walk off and sign up with the one next door.

I have an assessment with dhl next week. Not sure I’ll bother after reading this.

There’s me thinking de- brief was in ashford, Kent at the green slime ( intelligence corp ) and then chinook back to Bradbury lines for a rollicking off DLB! ( sir peter, head shed ) then back to norn iron in 24 hours! :grimacing: jeez
