Truth in what she’s saying. I suspect they find plenty of low hanging fruit small restricted operators doing tiny annual mileages, who aren’t really au fait with constantly changing road transport rules and regs, that are non-compliant in some area yet overall represent no threat to road safety or cause competition issues. We looked after a 7.5tonner for a local business and in ten years of operating they never realised you were supposed to fill in the centre fields of a tacho disc, the truck was never driven for more than two hours a day though so no real harm done.
However, I smell upcoming hypocrisy. I suspect thousands of these exact same operators will be ignorant of the DCPC requirement and I suspect she’ll have no issue with VOSA resources being deployed on this rather than drivers hours’ offences at large hauliers in the hire and reward sector, when the time comes.
I suspect every word of the above is true.
