Bethnal green to Croydon late morning tomorrow

Come on London boys do the business for me with best route.

Tulse hill on the south circ will need avoiding.

Think iv cracked it. Tulse hill is not a problem.
Blackwall tunnel
A2
South circ

23

I think. :open_mouth:

Blackwall Tunnel, A2 as far as Darenth interchange. M25 clockwise to J4 . Off at J4 for A21.
A21 as far as The Fantail (traffic lights locksbottom) fork left onto A232 all the way to Croydon

I agree with cav551. If there’s two roads I detest it’s the A2 from sun in the sands, and the south circ. For croydon jobs I do the M25/A21/A232 route every time

Not sure where you are going in Croydon, maybe the same as the other week?

Blackwall out on the A2, slow for the average speed check as it is 30mph, to Darenth then round to J4 then up the A21 to Farnborough Hospital and bear left onto the A232, down to Coney Hall and turn left towards Addington then follow this up Gravel Hill and down into Croydon which will bring you out by the flyover that runs from Croydon to Waddon. If you go over the roundabout, Croydon Old Town Fire Station is on the left.

If you are planning to go off at the South Circular, then go down towards Catford, under the bridge at Hither Green which without looking is 14ft 6 if my memory serves me correctly so slow up and have a look as you go under it, down to the one way system at Catford, turn left and follow the A21 to Bromley then when you see the Homebase on the right, turn right to Beckenham. This is Beckenham Hill Road. At the tram station, turn right and follow the A2015 to the roundabout with the cinema, if it is still there, straight over and follow this to the big green. Take the second exit which is signed Croydon and at the lights, keep in the left hand lane and then go past Tesco which is on the right hand side. Follow this all the way to the traffic lights where the fire station is on the left which is Woodside then at the next lights, you can turn left and follow the A232 all the way into Croydon which will take you past the sight of the recent Tram accident or go straight over at these lights and follow the A222 into Croydon which will take you to West Croydon. You will then need to cross the London Road, A235 and go down Sumner Road which will meet you with the A236 which I assume you want to go to the same place as the other week for which you will need to turn right.

As the traffic round here has pretty pants all this week, have a look at Google maps and if the route to the M25 at Dartford is clear, then I would plough through the tunnel out to the M25, on at J2 back off at 4 then in via the A21, turn left as previously mentioned then down Gravel Hill and into Croydon that way.

Take the quickest route possible. Best Of Luck.

I had been going to suggest A2 Sun in the sands - Blackheath common Deptford, New X A 202 Camberwell Green and then Coldharbour Lane to Brixton and A23 south.

I was put off by the possibilty of the OP missing the required left, right, right, straight over on Denmark hill to avoid the no right turn into Coldharbour lane. Also the possibility of him being worried by the 14’3" bridge just short of Atlantic rd in Brixton.

Thanks for input guys but I ended up not going today , but I have got Costco Croydon tommorow. Been loads to Croydon recently. Coming from Derby Im guessing the a23 north from m25 as it further down the a23 than damecha so Einstein’s way he reccomeded last week doesn’t quite work as well

Yes, it’s just off the Purley Way so unless the M25 is horribly jammed up, take the M25 and take the Croydon turn at junction 7 and follow the A23 up to Imperial Way. If you’re coming before 7 you can’t go any other way because of the truck ban.

If there are dreadful delays on the M25, you can turn off at junction 10, come up the A3 then take the A240 at the Tolworth junction and follow the signs for Sutton then Croydon (as long as you’re not too high for the Tolworth railway bridge on the A240, which is 15’3" I think).

It really depends on what time you are due in Croydon at Costco. It is the old 6 and 2 three’s scenario.

Lets say 08.00 booking at Costco, then I would go the way I recommended last week as all the traffic will being going the other way. Just go past Damecha to the roundabout and go the other way up the Purley Way A23 to Costco and you turn right at the lights by the Ford dealer. Later than that, then it is up to you.

Unless you know this part of Sarf London really well, may I suggest that you try to avoid if at all possible. It is littered with Low Bridges, No Right Turns, Yellow Box Junctions, 7.5 ton weight limits and Local Council Enforcement Camera Cars which will take No Prisoners. However TNUK CSI will cut and paste your unfortunate/misfortunate "Getting wedged under a Bridge/Strike/Roof ripping off session all over the forum

One particular junction that regularly sees a camera car sitting recording is on the A215 Norwood Road Junction with Lavender Avenue. If you are coming from West Norwood and turning right into Lancaster Avenue to avoid the infamous take no prisoners low bridge on the South Circular at Tulse Hill, make sure you keep clear of the yellow box when making the turn. Have a look across the junction and the car is parked the wrong way on the other side of the road and will get you if you cross into the box and then stop before making the exit into Lancaster Avenue.

Yep, bridge is 15’3" I have seen a double decker bus being towed on the hook under it back to the garage on the other side and the guy stopped, got out and walked forward and had a look before going under.

This works until you get to Cheam Village unless it is after 07.00. Once you cross the A217 from Cheam Village into Cheam Road which is the A232, then this is a LBTS restricted Road. Although the sign says 16.5 tons, it is still a restricted road. If you go round Carshalton Ponds, then take it slowly as many years ago, one of the Express Dairy trucks from Morden went for a swim one morning…
